if this story was true they sure didn't show that in the movie

I can't believe how many people have never heard of the Battle of Thermopylae. I can't think of any better last stand in the history of the world. This was better than the battle at Little Big Horn. Custer was outnumbered 2:1 and got annihilated. The Spartans were outnumbered anywhere from 150:1 to 1500:1 (depending on which accounts you read). Although they eventually lost the pass, they kicked some serious ass before going down.

C'mon Duke they got to Hollywood up the movie a little! lol
The truth is 300 Greeks knew that they would die and they still went, regardless of the odds or the outcome! They knew they were going to die . By the end of the battle they fought with broken swords, hand and teeth!
I've been crazy busy, I still havent seen it yet. I want to see it at Imax.

was i the only one who wasnt to impressed? I found the movie to be WAY to hyped up. I walked away somewhat disappointed. The cinematography was unbelievable, as was the style of fighting. But at some points i just thought, wow thats right from gladiator, or.. is that it? I would have loved to see the final battle sequence

300 absolutely lives up the hype. There are several scenes that can only be appreciated on IMAX.

Movies are great in your living room, but some are just made to be seen on the big screen.

POSEIDEN - If only I spoke Greek - I would love to chat with your father over a nice plate from yaya :)

Seriously though, this IS true, but where was it in the history books? The Peloponesian war gets all the attention!

Can't wait to see it.

It was in the history books. Herodotus wrote about the Persian invasion as the roots of the Pelopennesian War. Sparta had the army and Athens had the navy. Sparta led the Greeks against the Persians on land, while Athens led the Greeks at sea. After Thermopalae, the Persians were eventually turned back at Salamis by the Athenian navy. After the Persians left, Athens dominated Greece, and because of the navy, could capture and colonize the Ionian cities that were Persia's entire reason for invading in the first place. And Athenian dominance led to the Pelopennesian League and the Pelopennesian War.
