I'm looking to upgrade the all in one printer I currently have. I'm leaning towards a Canon Pixma MP830. I'm looking for a printer whose ink doesn't cost a fortune and have to be replaced every two months like my current Epson.

Thanks,
Steven

i just got the pixma 460 about 4 months ago great overall printer esp the copying and scanning quality! fast printing as well but photo printing could be better (460 uses only 2 ink cart) and no tray for 4 x 6s only univ tray for everything. my old hp photosmart did amazing photos but pixma has bluetooth printing and usb direct printing w/large lcd color screen

timber as of right now the best of the best depending on what your looking to spend is the hp all in one 6180... its available at staples i believe 269.99 this week... it uses 6 different ink cartridges but the good thing is that they have a combo pack with all 6 cartridges and 150 sheets of photo paper at 35.99.. individual each inch will cost ya 11 bucks and black is $17 they last a long time. The 6180 has a ink recycling feature where as in a reg. printer it would waste ink warming up and or waste ink that was not used this takes the ink and puts it in a reserve tank so no ink gets wasted ;)..

some features

auto doc feeder
view screen
memory card slots
fast printing
wireless network ready
there are many more but in my opinion its worth the money...

my sister bought one and she loves it... the photo quality is amazing..

Do you need color, there are some great options out there if you don't. Unfortunately color laser AIOs will set you back a bit.

I can recommend the Dell 1815dn for black lasers ($399) or the HP LaserJet 3055.

Color InkJet AIO on the cheap the HP 5610 $130 or HP 6310 ($230)

If you're printing a lot of photographs I'd get a printer that's dedicated to that. I've had nothing but problems with customers with Photo based AIOs.

Just my .02

With the price of printing prints online or in retailers being so cheap; I really don't need an AIO for photos. Basically need the copy, scan, and fax (for the once or twice a year I need to fax).

By the way, why is faxing still the standard for communicating documents. Whenever I need to deal with the town, insurance, or bank they want a fax. How come an email of a document isn't accepted?

Tony, I'm going to look into the HP. I've had about 4 HPs in the past; before the current Epson. Although they've always worked great, the cheap plastic parts always broke. Is the ink deal a special that Staples has going or is it the regular everyday price.

I use an HP officejet 5510 all in one for all my college student needs and I love it. I know there is a model like one "notch" higher that's also quite inexpensive and perfectly capable of printing, faxing and scanning for all "semi-professional" needs. I use mine to scan photos, send faxes to work etc. My mother just bought that canon pixma you were talking about and the photos it prints are pretty superior. I was quite impressed but have only used it a few times. I did set it up for them, and it was a breeze.

since your not going the photo route, why dont you go with a black in white laser all in one... for example a brother 7420 All in One black and white laser cost ya about 249.99 toner cost ya about 65.00 lasts ya about 4000 pages (sweet)....

also with the cartridges its a reg. everyday price for the hp ;)...
