well this auction really kils it for people who are average people who are really car enthusist. they make cars value alot more than they really are and for those building one the parts price's are retarded after these auctions. you see alot of the cars that arent worth millions nor will they ever be. you get people with too much money and no real appriciation for the car who buy them at retarded price's that other will never be able to afford after these auctions. just my opinion

they don't show all the cars up for auction on TV. Also, some of those cars are sold for a great price and if you make the money and you want to spend 500k or a mill on a car who is to say you can't and how do you know they don't appreciate it? Also, what kind of car are you building that the parts are expensive? If it's domestic and you can't find the parts cheap at one of the millions of websites than your car isn't worth the effort to restore.

i didnt say i couldnt get my part's nor do i have something that old. but the price's for chevelle's ? or any 60's car for 100k and up ? one of my old shop manager's had a 71 duster appraiser at 50k { come on } and was offered 30k cash, its not that nice. it make's it to where the guys that dont have 6 figure and up income's, cant hardly get a 60 muscle car they had. or to get one that isnt chopped up. for a nice chevelle now days 25k and up and a 25k one has been modded = value loss. just saying a regular ole person can't just go get a hot rod{ with a ok job} with out a loan or credit cards

You need to dig deeper into the subject then just BJA, also they don't show on the TV the lesser cars that get auctioned off first as that would kill the ratings.

25k is not a lot of money for a 60's/70's Chevelle in decent shape. Do you have any idea how much time is involved in making a 40 yr old car into something nice, let alone what the parts cost? There are only so many restorable cars left these days. If it was'nt for the hot rod industry the govt. would have crushed all these cars years ago, as there was legislation on the books that got shot down with help from SEMA to keep them from getting crushed by the oil companies for some kind of credit. I don't remember all the details of it, but they were pushing hard to get all the old cars out of our hands.

Be glad your not in the market for one of the "Super Snakes", one sold on BJ for 5 mil.!

I know a lot of guys who buy cars cheap and restore them and don't spend 25k. Anyone who wants one can get one. It's just not everyone can own a completely original shelby gt500 number 3 off the line, or a Yenko with all it's paper work. If the car isn't that common or holds a sentimental value than it's worth whatever the highest bidder is willing to pay. Can't fault people for having money. Another thing is it is true that the cheap cars don't get aired. My complaint is there aren't enough cars out there in a condition that makes restoration or modding worth it.

well seeing i run a bodyshop, i pretty much know what it cost labor wise to restore a car. and the time involved. as for finding parts on car's depending what type of a car and if a person wants to get aftermarket parts or to try and find oe parts is another story, same goes with price. alot of aftermarket parts arent that bad priced. but if you have to pay someone to paint and do body work it isnt nothing to be 8 to 20 grand in just from there depending on what all is done. and i know the differance in a true collector car and something thats a old musle car you want. just saying 500k for a origanal 67 or 68 gt500 is ridiculous. but if you have it to spend then so be it i guess, but thats a investment, not someone who is into the car and wants it for a sunday cruiser. they put people who want this car for themselve's to take the wife or whatever they want to do with it, out of the picture. {used the 67 gt500 cause thats my dream car}:bump:

You are correct on some of these prices being totally out of hand, but as long as someone is willing to spend that much for a car that is rare and hard to find, that's what they are goiing to go for.

Compare this to some of our corals. Orange Envy's at 100-200 a polyp! And these are still growing, Ford stopped making 67 GT 500's in 67, there are just so many available.

how do you know they aren't going to drive it? maybe they had one as their first car or their dad always wanted one growing up. They aren't all investments. In fact, in england a lot of the collectors their prefer to see the little paint chips and dings along the front of a car from it being driven. I personally hate trailor/garage queens.

B.J. auction is like everything else designed for a specific "class" of people. Something that could be had for a reasonable price, gets bumped up to crazy dollars by the people who have no idea of the meaning of a dollar.
As for old muscle cars and collectors cars, there are still tens of thousands of them out there, you just have to know where to look. They will need restoration, but that is the biggest part of the fun is getting dirty and creating the car of your dreams with your own 2 hands. Those who just pay Boyd Coddington or someone else to build it for them shouldn't have the car, I.M.O.
I own a 70 Chevelle, tubbed, w/ blown 427, it started out as a 307 with a 3 on the tree, baby poop brown bench seat with no options. I made it what it is and when I was finished, I stood back and looked at it with the pride that some guy that buys a car from an auction will never know.
