Ok here is the dilemma, I have Optimum online and I/O cable for about 130 per month, but they have this triple play offer that is 30 bux x 3 for the 3 cablevision features that are out there, I/O Cable, Optimum online and Optimum Voice. that's about 100 bux per month and wouls also eliminate my 50 dollar phone bill.

My Question is how reliable is OV and does anyone have it are they happy with it, are there any serious problems, Let me know your opinions.

Oh and before someone suggests another cable company I live in an area where cablevision is the only cable company available and dishes are not permitted in the condo complex so those are not viable suggestions.
Sorry Dace I know you're a timewarner guy.

Chief, I am using Optimum Triple play for the last one year without any issue. The only issue I had was with my 900Mhz phone. I upgraded to 5.2Ghz and everything looks good for me.

whats your current phone service provider? if u have a landline(actual line to the phone co), besides the 30$ savings, i think the diff between voip n landline is the voip is dependent on Optimum online. if they are down, ur phone is down also.

I have verizon as my local provider You know tho it's actually cheaper to get all 3 optimum features and keep my phone, would save me 40 bux per month instead of paying 135 for cable and internet I would be paying 90 for cable and internet and a second phone line LOL.

what some do is get the triple play n downgrade the landline to just local calls with per call charge(under $20) then make all ur calls on the voip. use the landline only for emergencies. that still is cheaper n have a backup line.

Chief,

Dump the landline. I've had the triple play for over 2 years. Yeah your phone goes out if you lose power or if the cable service is down. If you hook up your cable modem to a UPS or other type battery backup your phone will work. Also I'm assuming you have a cell phone in case.

I've never really had any major outages in the two years. Also if you use the OV voicemail you can listen to your messages on the PC. I like the fact that I have one less bill to deal with every month.

also check the amount of time you get the $100 price. sometimes that goes up to regular price after 3 or 6 months. so after all is said and done you're spending the same amount of cash.

Ugh, Chief double check those prices. The triple play is like buying a car:
"Yes SIR! $9,999.99 You have your own steering wheel? No? That's extra. You have your own tires or you want ours, cause that's extra. What about seat, you keeping your old seat or do you want us to put seats in......"

My bill with TW is about $130, tv and modem. When I called in for the triple play they said "well that's with basic cable, lets see you have the gold package, that's $40 more, you have hbo, showtime, starz etc, that's an extra $25....." It came out to what I pay now + the normal fee to add their OV. Some savings!

As one of the engineers that rolled out OV, beta tested OV, and spent an hour on a conference call every morning for a year working out the bugs on OV, created reports and gave presentations on why it wasn't working and how to fix it I say DO NOT GET IT!!!!!!

I haven't had anthing to do with Cablevision in 2 years so maybe it's different now. A friend of mine has it and he has no issues. I say stay with Verizon it will work in an emergency, it will work when the power's out. And G-d forbid, you don't ever want to have to dial 911 from an OV phone, trust me.

I know the 911 issues, professional interest :), I was gonna call them and find out what was up in the AM and use it as a second line, maybe use it as a second line and startup the computer repair biz again using that as the line. I dunno, 130 for cable and internet is rough man real rough. But after speaking with Dad, a verizon alumnus for many years they are staying.

ive had if for over a year, and they have been pretty good, it's fast most of the time and the phone have no us long distance. only bad if a power outage you have no phone other than a cell. watch if they bill from a middle month to start at the end of year it goes from 90 to 125, plus partial month charges thats over half a month again. pretty fast on calls lol a day or two, i have had it for 4 yr's now

I've had Optium Online for 2yrs! It's great reliable and you will not know the difference for Optium Voice, or any of there services. DSL verizon & Time Warners Cable are all good as well!! Its the user preference....bottom line its usually what promos are out there for the grab! Everything has a draw back, nothing is perfect. Us techie's need a job 2!! Its call job security! Later and have a Happy NY2007

I've been doing the triple play for a couple of years now without any issues. i kept my verizon phone line on the cheapest possible plan (still about $30/month for some reason) and just use the verizon for incoming calls (thats my original number i give out) and i use the cablevision phone line for outgoing calls.

believe it or not, the cablevision phone line has never gone out on me, while my verizon line goes out every time it rains (and no, verizon doesnt really care to fix it).

just keep in mind that if you have a central monitoring system for your home alarm, those usually require a landline for the company to be able to dial into your alarm system (to reset it or whatever). but most alarm systems should still work over a cablevision line (obviously you'd have to check with you alarm company to verify all this)

Yeah just got off the phone with them, kinda like cell phone companies, new customers get all the discounts and existing customers get the shaft! With the movie plan and the triple play my bill would be more than I am going to be paying in a little over a week.

Albert, no alarm system, I don't believe in them having worked for a pretty well known and 2 small alarm companies for a few years before getting on the nypd, I have concluded that the best alarm system is a BIG DOG! No need for a landline for a central station, just a little green clean maching to clean up the blood stains and a quick call to the local precinct to pick up the rest of the pieces :lol2:

well i would probably have to agree that having a pct in your bedroom might be a little better than having an alarm system.
i also love my agressive watch dog, he's great. anyone that breaks in will get all caught up playing with him and wont have time to steal stuff.
