I was going to call and go over it but maybe if I post it will help others. Yes there are three different surgical options to repair a ruptured ACL in dogs. The TPLO, TTA and lateral suture technique. I have assisted in both TTAs and TPLOs. I personally do the lateral suture. I have done it on all size dogs. 10 pounds up to 100+ pounds. Yes this procedure is reserved for dogs under 40-50 pounds. I do it on larger dogs due to finances. I always 100% recommend that they go see a boarded surgeon and have either the TPLO or TTA done. I like the TPLO personally but it's surgeons preference.
Since you have insurance (trupanion? based on the 90% coverage) then i would tell you to go to the specialist to have it done. This is the bread and butter of what they do. 90% of their day to day procedures. Your in Astoria so which specialist would you be going to?
The recovery time is very important. I am sitting for my exam in December to get my certification in canine rehabilitation. The TTA and TPLO are going to get you back to full function quicker. The lateral suture can take up to 6 months.
If you like after the surgery I can design a rehab plan for you. At first I would wait and take the advise of your surgeon. I start my rehab on my lateral suture right away but it's best to go by your doctor.
If you would like I'm in Garden City/ New Hyde Park Long Island and would be happy to look at your pup for you.
Since the lateral suture is costing you $4,000 there isn't going to be a huge difference in price especially since your getting 90% back.
