Hi Mr,

Im sure most of you have gone fishing but unfortunately, I have never. This year I am taking my dad for some father and son time. Only problem is I don?t know what to look for and where to go for a good time. I?ve looked around but I honestly don?t have any idea of good locations or business to go to for this stuff. Im from Manhattan so I am looking to rent everything for this experience.

Any good recommendations or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reading!!!

For a first timer I recomend those party boats that do half day trips. Look on groupon and you will get almost 50% off the normal fare (search fishing). Also they will have everything you will need to enjoy a wonderful day on the water.

I agree with Rob, first time is probably best if you go out on a party boat.

They usually have Rod, reel, rigs and mates on the boat to help you, if you catch a fish, get stuck, etc.

I would say check out some websites and try to find trips targeting Porgy, seabass. It's a lot easier to catch porgies than black fish

Blackfish are tricky little guys that pull your rig into the rocks, so without the experience and technique I wouldn't recommend it. it'll be no fun losing and buying 100 rigs.

Bluefish/Striper trip can be fun but are usually jigging trips, and will cause some sore arms. Most first timer have no idea how to jig and would probably not enjoy it.

Of course your choice, and also depends on what you want.

Yes, it's fine to eat the fish lol fish migrates so it's not like they're soaking in the dirty nyc water all the time.

Since you're in the Bronx why don't you head out of city Island? I checked groupon it's mostly Fluke trip now. I would say 90% of the time the flukes you'll catch are not keepers (legal size)

Island Current out of City Island is a good boat. I use to be a regular there but haven't had time in the last 2 years. http://www.islandcurrent.com/public_html/home.cfm

also check Noreast for fishing reports. Do note* if they dont post pictures and claim they're on fire. it might be a hype. lol

even more of a reason a party boat is the way to go for you small rental fee for what you will need to use and the only thing youll need to do is bring something to eat/drink and pale or something to put your fish in when you catch em

When i was a kid and my family lived in NY we fished out of freeport and city island on a regular basis.
