Looking into a short stay in Los Cabos, travel lady suggested one place for affordability but it really does not appear kid friendly. anyone been here lately with children? and yes, I am aware the ocean is dangerous for swimming in and extremely strong undertow. if you have been here recently, where did you stay?

place suggested with ME, (melia) los cabos or RIU Santa Fe (mixed reviews)

I own a time share from Vidanta, specifically the Grand Mayan. They have hotels in about 6 different tourist stops in Mexico, including Los Cabos. I have stayed at the Riviera Maya [20 minutes from the Cancun hotel strip] location about 4 times because I like it so much. They have lots of on premise restaurants, a golf course, nightly themed entertainment, pools all over the place, very kid friendly, the staff treats guests extremely courteous.

Again, my opinion is based on my experience with the Riviera Maya location, but I can tell you that as long as you don't stay in their cheap tier hotels [they have tiers that go from budget to extreme luxury] you won't be disappointed. Here is the link: http://www.thegrandmayan.com/los-cabos

You can also go to http://www.grupovidanta.com/organization and see all of the hotels they have. Click on a name to view where in mexico they have locations. I would recommend not looking at the hotels below The Bliss.

When you mentioned Melia, did you mean the hotel chain? If so, they have hotels in the Dominican Republic and the one I stayed in was awesome.

Riu Hotels, Hmmm... I haven't hear anything good from my friends that stayed in the one located in Cancun; the ones in the Dominican Republic are cheap tier hotels, so judging from that I would say skip them.

Thanks for the info: I have been to riviera maya and really like it. We are going to be in San Diego for a few day sand figured cabo was more convenient to slide into than riviera. The Melia resort that was recommended I am not sure if it it's part of the chain or not, if so it's nothing like other properties, very trendy look to it

ME is part of them; they own hundreds of hotels. At least in the Dominican Republic, Melia hotels [they have 6] are geared towards adults only.

Thanks for the information, if you don't mind me asking....have children or travel with children! That grand Mayan looks amazing and reviews are excellent. I am going to look into it more

No kids yet, but plenty of them stay in that resort. They even have babysitting service, game room rentals [you pay "x" amount an hour and your kids play the arcades and video game consoles] in which the attendants poke in and out to see how the kids are doing.

Another good thing is, if you choose a Master Bedroom or a Master Suite you get a kitchen area; you can then go to the local shops and stock up on drinks, food, snacks, etc. That will save you a lot of money, as opposed to just eating at their restaurants.

A few years ago when I was in Los Cabos it was the party spot to be at. Definitely wasn't kid/family friendly.
I mean I was sitting at the restaurant/bar at the beach and suddenly found myself in the middle of a live strip show on the beach!

Thanks for the info! I'm currently wondering what to do and your thread popped up. How did you decide for Los Cabos? We have a 3-year-old and I'm a bit worried if he's going to be able to sleep or the whole thing is going to turn into a disaster. I'll make sure that I don't reserve at the cheap and dirty hotels they offer.
