Men fighting women may soon become a reality if Shooto Brazil has its way. The combat sports promotion is attempting to book a mixed martial arts (MMA) fight pitting Emerson Falcao (0-1) against Juliana Velasquez (0-0) for this Friday night (Dec. 20, 2013) in Rio de Janeiro.

Be curious to see if this is allowed. I read part of that link you posted and brings up solid point: how can determine if fighters are on same level or skill sets are equal?

I don't think either willing participant would or should contest the results, but I agree as a matter of fairness to both: how do you know the fighters are in the same class? I think it would be a waste of time to fight someone who couldn't go toe to toe, round after round, blow by blow you get the point haha.

Look Im all for equality but men and woman are built way different. Its evolution and the past 100 years didnt evolve womans bodies to be like a mans body with thousands of years evolving. Its extremely dangerous and careless on the MMAs part.

Unfortunately in today's world the fight for equality has gone WAY out of control. This isn't going for a promotion in a workplace, this is wanting to go into a cage and go blow for blow with a man.

It disgusts me as a man who has served his country, served NYC, put my life on the line for strangers for a lot of years and has been raised with strong values- the main one being you never raise your hand to a woman. If a professional MMA organization allows this to happen that would be a real shame. The other side is why the hell would a woman want to go against a man in a fight? It perplexes me.

If it happens hopefully she won't get tendons torn or bones crushed to where she's a cripple afterwards. I think some forget, Brazilian jujitsu, the base of MMA is not about going round for round- that's boxing. Ju jitsu is about incapacitating somebody by forcing joints to go ways they were never designed to go, ripping the bodies muscles and permanently making a person to where they can't continue to be a threat. The only reason the pros don't all have that happen is they tap hopefully before it gets that far but so many of them still require surgery and it'll happen that much easier to a woman for the reasons duke stated that I really do hope this whole thing gets squashed and doesn't happen.

Should not be allowed. Opponents are categorized by weight class, ability, sex, sometimes age group. Years ago I coached junior wrestling. We would occasionally come up against a female wrestler. I always left the decision up to the kid and his parents if they wanted to wrestle the girl or not. If they elected not to I would give the kid a pass, most feel its a no win situation and I don't disagree. I also watched a kid on another team wrestle a girl he got her down grabbed her **** at then looked up at his friends and laughed. The match was stopped and the kid disqualified. I won't even try to debate that decision but my bottom line is in any contact sport boys vs boys and girls vs girls.
