what I do , I swap my credit card in the airport JFK a few times, so the bank SEE I'm traveling as soon as I get to my destination sample: SDQ I swap the card 1-2 times and I have-never had a problem :usa1:

I bought stuff in the airport terminal waiting for the plane. Better safe than sorry. The phone call would have taken under 5 minutes. Wish I would have done it.

I'm sure each bank and credit card company are different. Chase wants you to call them from one of your recognized numbers to verify its you and not just a smart criminal. Wouldn't have been a big deal but no cell phone in Costa Rica so I had to get a higher up to authorize the card to be used again and that took getting through 12 nosy people.

wow, thanks guys!!!
Cleaning up the house right now since my father in law is making a surprise i.e. last minute, just told us yesterday, visit!

Good info on the CC thing, I will make sure to do that when we get there and make sure they can limit it/check in on it often in case the safe in the room gets robbed or we loose it in the ocean or something- I can't have my valuables on me all the time!

I also intend to bring my phone...maybe I'll bring my crap back up phone. I'll see if the sim card is exchangeable.

I think we will bring about $400 in cash (tips and random excursions over 7 days will rack up!) 1 CC, and 1 savings acct. card (can only be used at an ATM, for extreme emergencies. I don't think we need this one since we have the CC...but my wife insists).

Not sure if you mean to call the CC company from the DR or something else, but it is very important to call the CC company from your home phone # to alert them to your international travel. Don't wait until you get there, it'll be too late.

Have a great trip

Hola folks!
I am in the DR and having just had 6 margaritas, am chilling in the club computer room. We got a nice upgrade and it's just amazing-ocean view, 2 outdoor spaces, 2 jacuzzi, 24//7 room service, bali beds, pool/swim up bar, free international liquor in the room, champagne, etc, etc, etc.

This is so sweet.
Not a care in the world-I am thinking about my fish tank off and on-.

We did call the CC company while still in a US airport, and have just used the cash we have so far.

Tipping is definitely getting us GREAT service. I essentially tip $5 for more or less everything. $2-3 per batch of 3-4 drinks at the bar, when I'm like sitting RIGHT there. But, I appreciate the folks, and the folks appreciate and remember me, so all is well.

I'm going diving and snorkeling somewhere tomorrow.
Then going for a speed boat ride wednesday AND ATV and lagoon swimming.

fun times. fun times.

It's late and too dark to go swim, and wife is watching horrible Twilight vampire movie in the room and I just...can't.

ok...I'll go read some books while i still have time to read a good book.
It's called SUnny Chernobyl. a great read for a vacation!
All about environmental pollution.

good stuff.
