Does anyone have any experience with this animal. I really want it but I have a few fears about acquiring this bird.

Please help a fellow reefer

aquariums are messier. I have tried it all. I think having a ringneck will complete me. I am trying to find a young parakeet somewhere in new york. Also I want to build a cage on my own. any info will be appreciated.

Yea there prob just as messy and both need a lot of time fish is more maintenance. They make great pets as long as you have time. I actually bought a cage off of craigslist for really cheap. They do need a nice sized cage. I really don't know anything about building one. Could be tricky cause they chew any type of wood and it can't be treated has to be natural. Cant use chicken wire cause it's kind of sharp. I purchased him from a breeder in Brooklyn he is a cinnamon blue Indian ringneck. Picks up whistling very fast and should start talking hopefully very soon.

can you please provide breeders #?

and one more question:

if I get a young bird from birdbreeds.com and pay 150 bucks for shipping, how will the bird handle a 5-10 hour flight?

I've always loved these birds. If I didn't have 2 crazy boxers that would each it how to bark I'd love to get one.

They're cheap and there are some feral ones living in Brooklyn, just like quakers.

I'd stay clear away from ringnecks in an urban or even suburban setting.

Having raised and bred almost every canary, finch, and hookbill you'll find in the average bird farm, as well as the more exotic keel bill toucans and emerald toucanettes (and pygmy marmosets!). I would strongly recommend blue crown conures as a replacement for a a ringneck-type bird; they even talk much better than ringnecks in my experience. And like ringnecks, blue crowns in my experience produce lest dander dust.

Or if you want the most quiet and cleanest of parrots, in my experience those have been white-capped pionus. They don't usually learn to talk well though, being so quiet, cute and cuddly. They are almost dander-less in my experience.

If you dont like dust, stay clear away from the tiels & toos.

If you dont like loud nose, that pretty much narrows your parrot choice to parrotlets, senegals, and... pionus!

Remember whichever you go with they're a lifelong commitment and they live pretty darn long.

You should check out Parrots of the World in Rockville Centre. The owner has a TV show about animals on channel 12 or 13. He also wrote a couple of books too. Birds are his specialty. Next to the fish tanks there is a room full of birds.

I personally don't know anything about birds. I had pair of doves that kept having babies. I went to camp one year came home and my parents gave it away. Had two finches too. Went away for a week my heater broke and they died.

I can give you her email address just pm.

When I was getting a parrot it was between the conure and the ringneck. I went with the ringneck because it is beautiful compared to the conure. Not here to debate I did a lot of research before purchasing ringnecks are one of the best small birds at talking and mimicking. As it was stated it is a long commitment they live for a very long time.

I would definitely try to find a breeder near you and not have one shipped.

Make sure what ever you do purchase a bird that is weaned. Dont fall for the you can wean it yourself. It takes a lot of time bottle feeding and what not.

well i think I asked them, but the questions changed to what is the avarage price for the blue RN, who is a competent breeder in NYC?
I found a breeder he said that ringnecks are vicious and its better to acquire them at about 2nd month. I think I can manage the bird. What do you think?

I am also afraid that any "so called breeder" can just order the animal from the internet and then resell it to me for more money...
How should I go about the authentication of this animal?

I would say treat it same as a dog breeder. Find one you feel the trip to is worth it and request to see his/her birds in person. In the flesh is always the way I roll. I visited my dog breeder in Ohio every 2 weeks- first so we got to know each other when the moms were still pregnant and then as the puppies grew. You'll have no question once you see them in the flesh.

There not vicious I think it's more that there moody. I had mine about a year and he has never really bitten me. Kind of like a dog where they snap but don't really bite. The lady I got mine from she hand raises them until about 3 months old I believe. I believe I paid about 300 for mine because the blue color is a little bit more expensive versus the green color. It's kind of like fish the nicer the color the more expensive.

Jim, thanx, you right.

Mmartin, I am being offered $350 for the blue which I will probably get. If I can find a price and a competent breeder, it would be great.

What if I would get a breeding pair (each bird around 3 years old) I can forget about their commitment to my training?
