16 yr olds dont buy anything the parents do. And parents pay insurence.

If i didnt spend $250,000 on rent since i was 18, maybe i would have a car also.
U need $60k a year to afford a car n rent. How many ppl make 60k/year. Maybe 2% of americans.

At age 16 i was working full time 70 hrs a week and in 3 years all i saved was $3,000. Not even close to enough for a car.

So if you're making $ 17 an hour, assuming that's 40 hrs a wk, that equates to 680 a wk, so 2,720 a month. So now subtracting 2720-1200-300-400=$ 820 end of month. Of course this isn't including taxes withdrawn of course. Sorry it wasn't adding up, lol

I live in Staten Island, have 3 cars, a house a wife a daughter a pooch and we make 70k a year combined, Elec 450-500, Gas 350-400, Food 1000, Property Tax 4k per yr, Water 350 every 3 months, cell phones (2) 160 mth, cable/internet/phone 170, Gas/Maintenance for autos 400 month.
So weird how you're having issues not having a car

Oh I know that all to well, a lot of my friends have similar issues, doing things like driving livery etc., and unsure if they can pass atleast 100 per shift having to worry about the next mortgage payment etc. and that's usually untaxed, this whole system is screwed up. Everything has skyrocketed except wages. And they think a minimum wage of 9 per hr is gonna help people if they do it, who's the joke on, sure as heck isn't the idiots in government

I was lucky when I got the house, the market was down 25 yrs ago, when I had moved from CO to NY back in 89 I brought a good amount with me. CO and NY are two totally different worlds. You can save a lot in those states. We didn't have all this crazy pricing like here, fuel, smokes, gas, whatever, so if you made 12 a hour, you had money. When I moved here I had enough to cover the house which I got for 85k, because it was foreclosed. So yeah that was a lucky strike but I jumped at it. I left my home when I was 15, and have been doing this every since, my parents have no where near what I have but they live 75% better, because they aren't in this greedy city lol

I think part of why a lot of people don't have cars in the city is due to insurance, especially if you live within the 5 boroughs vs LI, the cost is way too expensive. When I had a job last year I used a bonus check to pay for a car in full (bear in mind I've been living on my own since 22). I had to buy the car to commute to school, otherwise it makes more sense to put it into a money market acct. But yeah this city is expensive, you technically don't need a car except if you live on the island

Lol, that sux homes are that stupidly priced over in Brooklyn. Sure it's a pretty hopping place, but I can hop in my truck and hop over the bridge to be in the hopping place called Brooklyn, have a great day and get the heck out lol. Bad part about all that hopping, is I gotta hop back over that dang V bridge and that just cost me whatever the toll is now, I stopped bothering with guessing with that crap now lol.
