If your not going to use the mobile app then its not worth the money. Its still a programmable thermostat you just do it differently. I think there $250, you can get a good programmable thermostat for around $75 and touch screen for around $110. To do the mobile part you need to spend more than $250 with a Honeywell system, but I would check that you don't have to purchase additional equipment for the nest like Honeywell. If you are using a programmable now your not going to see huge savings by getting the nest I would even say you would save none. If you wanted to try and save some fuel look into an outdoor reset control there are some new ones that don't cost a lot anymore this would save you far more than the thermostat itself. In Europe they have been using outdoor reset for many years its just catching on here I have been using them for about 17 years it use to be costly to install it has gotten much simpler. I have outdoor reset in my house for 16 years I just recently upgraded it.

I use a Honeywell and keep my house at 76 degrees during the summer months. Since my girlfriend and myself are on extremely dynamic schedules I use it not to program however but to turn the temp down just before I get home. This helped my bill a great deal since I wasn't cooling / heating unnecessarily. Just my .02

I plan on using the mobile feature a lot actually. Last year I tried programming my thermostat and eventually gave up. I come and go at different times and I got sick of getting home to a cold house. If I can raise the temp while I'm on my way home, I can keep it lower when I'm not. It's also an older house with iron radiators, so it takes a decent amount of time before the house starts to heat up. One of the things I liked about the Nest is that it figures out how long it takes to heat to the desired temperature and turns on accordingly.

Also, as a bit more background... I'm renting the house, so I'm not going to make any upgrades to the heating system that I can't bring with me. A thermostat I can rip off the wall and replace with the old one if I ever move. An external reset isn't really an option.

I have one. Just got it about a week ago now. Pretty cool. I got it by switching energy providers. It was a gift for signing up for a year. App function is extremely helpful and user friendly. It's self learning so no need to update it constantly, it will adjust itself according to your usage.
Besides the money saving, it looks sleek and bad ***. Even lights up as you look up to it.

Be sure its compatible to what you have now. go on there website and check out the videos that show you how to check.

It saved us 30%. It's not just the mobile app but if your thermostat is in a high traffic area it learns your schedule. So it knows when we are out of the house and are likely to come back.

Also if you spend some time adjusting it to meet your needs it learns that. For example we have 2 kids so my wife turns up the heat for bath time and then down again for bed time so know it knows to increase the temp around 6:30 and decrease it at 7:30.

Nest

I installed one earlier this month and I love it. It's simple to install, easy to use, and the app is very good. Another thing I like is that it looks great on the wall, definitely not my fathers thermostat, it's the iPhone of thermostats. So far I'm very please with it and plan to integrate the smoke/carbon monoxide dectors down the road.
