Ill tell you know going full veg is hard on you body you need to sub your protein intake some how it's a great idea but if I where you you can instead start eating less or no red meat and eat super foods. So chicken kale aloe banana brown rice ( white is not good ) broc and spinach is all on the menu !!!

Thanks, I stopped eating red meat a while ago. Now I'm stepping away from chicken and fish. As well as milk and cheese.

I've heard mixed reviews about eggs.

The likeliness is I won't ever go all out vegan but I'm just looking for some helpful pointers.

I'll likely cave and continue to eat egg whites and I currently use protein supplements derived from milk(whey) but other than that I've been staying away from meat and other diary products.

If you want to be a true vegan or vegetarian you need to educate yourself on both. First ppl will tell you you can't get enough protein as a vegan. It is untrue a complete myth. Ppl on plant based diets are the healthiest ppl on the planet. You will run into crazy ppl on both sides of the issue. My wife has been a true vegan and gluten free and is running a half marathon. She doesn't do it for crazy reasons she's not an animal rights nut she just believes its the best thing for her. There is a place in NYC called blossom it is vegan and I have gone with her a few times. I enjoy it and I'm not a vegan. Most important whatever your reason for wanting to do it educate yourself. Good luck

Thank you for the response, I started this thread for advice/pointers although I am fairly edjucated in health and fitness, however being a vegan/vegitarian is foreign to me.

Moneymaker, it's a nice attempt at a old joke but it wasn't funny even when I ate meat and it's still not funny today.

+1 I'm a vegetarian. Just mean I'm a lazy vegan. Remember if it had a mother you don't eat it. (Vegan) . If you can't eat it don't put it on your body period.
Underarm deodorant, toothpaste, body lotions. Try and eat organic. Do not supplement with vitamins. Eating raw veggies fruits nuts grains will give you all the supplements you need. But there is so much more you can eat. Research & read.

Just a few tips from a Pescetarian;
1. There are so many vegan/veggie recipes packed with protein, I suggest getting a used cook book online. I usually try something at a restaurant and then look it up to get some ideas. I recently discovered tofu "eggs." Simple and delicious :)
2. My other half does the food shopping and it seems Trader Joe's / Vita Cost have the best prices on groceries.
3. As far as restaurants if your ever on Brooklyn, Park Slope to be exact, there's V Spot and 'Snice. Candle Cafe on UES or UWS, is expensive but worth the trip.
