Can someone tell me if my data can be salvaged from this HD? The Sara cable burned beyond recognition but the drive itself looks almost ok. Is there Any hope?

send it to the manuf. if it's under warranty and see if they can recover the data.

It can be save if it didn't get burn all the way though or smoke didn't get to the plates
If that happen Its going to cost you a lot for recovering the data .. You can try to swap that controller broad its only 4 screws t5 t6 pop right off. But you must be from the same manufacturer... But you will lose your warranty for sure.. Hope that helps

Replacing the controller board is the only chance and even thats not 100 percent , something caused a big short for that to happen

I know but trying to give a little hope... That data recovery is a lot of $$$ he might as will sell the tank and them some..

Hahaha yah recovery does cost a fortune thats why i tell all my customers a 50$ external hd and 5 minutees will save you a whole lot in the end

It's a WD caviar green. Went out of warranty in feb. I always had an external back up but then didn't hook it up cuz nothing ever happened! I learned my lesson now...
