I have a 1yr old female fixed cat I rescue from my gob got her when she was 3 month old. About 2 month a go I got a tiny male kitten from work also. I had them seperated and I let them get together a little at a time for about a month then I let him out.they were fine the bigger cat grooms him they follow each other. He is a kitten so he is a pita he likes to play but its all the time usually the bigger cat will let him know when its enough.Last night she attacked him like I never seen before she was fluffed up and growling loud,I think she hurt his back leg he is slightly limping.I seperated him and put him in the spare room where I started him out inThe next day I opened the door but left the gate up she saw him and went after him like she wanted to kill him.Does any one with 2 cats have had this happen I dont know what to do. I feel bad leaving him alone in there but dont want to let him out i dont want either of them getting hurt. Its odd because the older female is the most friendly cat and never shoes a hint of agression.Could it be jealous since the little guy kinds goes in her spots and kinda infringes at her time with us.the female is always on my lap of nex to me,she would bring the ball to play fetch..Since I let him have the house to roam she does not come by me like she used to because the little one wants attention.so I would put him down and get her but then little one comes up she leaves.I just found it odd because after the fight I went to check her to see if she had any injuries she made a wierd meow and jumped in my seat for attention and to be petted she did not leave me for a hour or so and slept in my bed instead of hers.Could this be some kind of jealous agression towards him since she has to share attention with him,if so what can I do ..I really cant let the little guy go and kinda pissed at my older cat for having that kind of mean agression to him especially since she hurt his leg somehow.

Good for you for rescuing them both :cat:
It's not expected, but is typical that a female cat doesn't accept a young cat easily. Male cats are much more accepting of the addition of a younger cat to the 'family'. Go figure...

I would keep the little guy away from her until his leg is feeling better (obviously consult a vet if you don't see improvement in a day or two). Your female will need more attention from you for a while (and give him some time to get larger). the more you pile it on when the kitten is around, the more she will enjoy it and not feel so insecure.
Is there anyone else the younger cat can bond more closely to?

Have you tried any game they can both play with at the same time...like using a laser light pen..or one of those round turbo scratcher things with the ball that rolls around the outer edge? They get distracted more by the toy than the other cat.

Some cats will never get along with each other, but they will learn to avoid each other and live in peace...eventually...

Don't give up yet! :)

Whats makes it odd they were fine for a month or more with no incident they play with themselves and us they slept in the same cat bed sometimes in their own .Ill get his leg checked tomorrow.I keep them seperate and rotate every couple hrs on who gets the single room.Im gonna get him fixed soon hopefully he will slow down.Ill let them see each other when the little ones leg gets better and slowly introduce them again, last resort they both get declawed or I gotta figure how to split the house between them, thanks

Definetly keep them seperate until the leg is healed seeking medical attention if neccessary

Otherwise i saw very simmilar activity when i brought home my second kitten, the older male ive had for a while was a rescue straight from the woods behind my house so he didnt take well at first to the new kitten

At first we made sure to keep a close eye on them and they constantly hissed at each other , for the first 2 months or so there was alot of aggression towards each other but we would seperate them instantly and use the spray bottle on. Oth of them until they realized this was not acceptable behavior

Of course they play and play fight together but in the beggining it was more territorial now they are fine and do everything together !

I took him to the vet, they had to drain a abscess from the bite marks he feels much better, they gave us meds..The origional vet was not there, but the estimate on his age was wrong this guy said he is around 5 months old by his teeth,he said he might have given a certain scent when the males get to that age,When I explained when he plays he bights her neck,he wasnt playing he was learning to be a man and the female didnt like it and picks up that scent..that explains the sudden anger and why she tries to stalk him and evict him.He is gonna get fixed in 3 weeks ,I have to keep them apart till he is better and fixed and slowly introduce them the vet said she will accept him after he is fixed might take some time but she will.I had no idea he was that old already and ready to go, he is so tiny like 3.5 lbs and still looks like a baby. Thanks for the help at least he feels better and I feel better knowing my older one really dosent have a hidden mean streak.

I had this issue years ago and sadly had to part with one f my cats. Thank god I found him a great home with my mommy. One of my cats got out while I was at work and was playing around outside for a good... 7..8 hours. When I came home and brought him back inside my other cat no longer recognized him because he smelled different. He was rolling around on the floor and running threw the grass after lightning bugs. My other cats instincts were to murder my poor kitty. No matter what I tried and how hard I tried I couldn't get them together. My vet was updated on the situation for a long time I rotated them in and out of bedrooms for almost a year. She finally insisted I separate them 100%. It hass to be a scent thing, your vet is right he may have let out some kinda new scent that male cats do when they reach about 1/2 a year, and she all of a sudden had a stranger in front of her. =\ hope you have better luck getting them back together than I did.

i had a my cat when i was in college and dental school, she moved with me everywhere i went.

my first housemate had another female cat. her cat was from a multiple cats household. she had to choose only one to bring with her to school. the first day, we had them in the carriers facing each other. the hissing and growling (mostly from mine) went on for hours. the end of the day, we let them out in separate area and then placed them back in each other carrier at bedtime. we kept doing this for a few days until they tolerated each other. they had separate area for their litter boxes. they shared the same water fountain but ate at a separate corners of the kitchen. they were not buddies but tolerated each other in the same room.

a couple of years later i moved to a different house and my housemate had a huge male cat. we did the same thing with the carriers. but this time, with in weeks they were buddies. playing and napping together. they were everywhere together except at my bedtime. my cat would sleep on her bed at the foot of my bed. sometimes the other cat would come join her also. don't know if it was because it was a male or because she got used to being with another cat.

all three cats were adults and neutered when they met. they were moved in on the same day....no one had an established territory.

I feel bad the little guy is in a seperate room.ill keep him there till he gets fixed I dont want him getting bit again then I have to wait longer to get him sniped. The vet said 3 weeks so there is nothing going on with the bite wound and infection.I hate having him in there its like he is punished and he didnt do anything wrong, hopefully he will calm down after, because he can be a lively one he chases things and bites he goes after things that dont even move, but he is so much fun all he does is play and chase me around the house, which helps my lazy ass move lol.

I just go in there and hang with him,its a pita to switch the litter boxes and food dishes,at least now he cant chew any wires ..This one likes remote controls and wires.I think it bothers me more than him. When I first got him I kept him there till he got his shots and vet said he was ok to be around the other cat since I took him home from work.. we have tons of cats roaming around .We had some aspca lady come and catch a few females and fix them and bring them back with a snipped ear to identify fixed ones, but they stopped because of no funding. Its sad because kittens are born all the time some dont make it and the others live there and multiply..So many perfectly good nice animals get stuck living stray,I think everyone who works there ended up with a cat from there at one point, even the non cat people end up falling for one of the kittens .
