I personally have never heard any one say well i need to go buy a mac because my windows computer doesnt have the software to do it , people bl8ndly buy macs to run video editing software but it also exists for pc , people just get things built up in thier head that macs are better cause they cost a fortune and ppl think its the cool thing to do , but its not even remotely true because my windows computer will smoke any mac out their hands down , 4 cores 5 ghz watercooled 32 gb ram running on 4 23 inch hd led monitors and it cost me exactly what an imac would cost , or the lowest model mac pro

yeah its not a computer measuring contest. the guy just wanted some suggestions on what computer to buy, not a list of what specs u have running.

also i agree if u havent been in the market for the past 10 years, run a mac....theyre not formatted for most viruses that affect PCs...i've been running my macs for a while.....i deal with PCs and macs in grad school and i've always leaned towards the mac.

Macs are better to the mass because it requires very little of their time that can be spent on other things ie run their business, family time, waterchanges for their tanks, or watching the grass grow should they choose so. Majority of people don't want to spend their Sunday afternoon scanning for malware, and more often than not, more than once. Time is a costly commodity. If they can afford it, so be it.

I don't disagree with you on cost. I'm a first reach PC guy, but also sensitive to people's requirements and level of tech they have/want.

For the first reach Mac is better lovers, you'll find comfort that your banks and major utilities are running...yup, you guessed it! Yoinks.

Well, if you want halfway decent editing software, your only real options are FCP and Avid. Since avid is significantly more expensive, you're left with FCP which only runs on a Mac.

As far as hackintosh machines, you may be able to run it, but your drivers aren't going to work, so it's like having a Ferrari with a 55mph limiter.

Apple still handles memory management better than Windows, which is especially important for graphics apps. The Free BSD core that OSX is built on is far more stable than Windows, and provides a full UNIX command line for people who want to use it.

Developers and technicians that require PC and Mac testing platforms can run a true virtualized environment on the Mac, making it a better choice. I already mentioned the advantages to designers and editors.

Oh and FYI, the Mac Pro can be configured with 12 cores, which would blow your 4 out of the water.

Bottom line is, Mac isn't the right choice for most people, but a PC absolutely CAN NOT do everything a Mac can, and for some people, like myself, PCs just don't hack it. For me it has nothing to do with the money or the "cool" factor. I use the computer best suited to my needs, and I'll spend the money on the right tool for the job.

Someone obviously never used a Mac Air. I used to be a massive PC fanboy until I used a Mac Air. Very fast, super light weight. Highly recommended. OP said he doesnt have a budget so.

Desktops are so antiquated, bro.

I have a gaming PC I built, so I also use Windows 7 for all gaming.

As for OP, check out IPADs for POS. It's the cool new thing. A lot of the bars I go to (in BK) use these ipads for POS and its awesome.

Sure you could configure a mac pro with 12 cores at a starting price of 3800 which is the cost of two of my PC not to mention it only comes with a single video processor and only 12 gb of ram

Yeah, a computer with more power costs more money... Go figure.

Just don't say you can smoke any Mac out there when you obviously can't.

Your comparing apples to oranges though , the price of my build was simmilar to that of an imac or a base line mac pro , if i spent 4 grand on partd you better believe it would rape a mac pro , i could build the equivalent of a fully loaded 12 core mac pro for the same price as the base 12 core mac pro.

I was stating that for the money what you could buy in pc vs mac , the pc will always win hands down , the only upside to the mac is its prebuilt but its also the down side because it doesnt allow for customoziation not to mention all apple products in general dont allow for customization except for the pre approved apple parts

I suggest you check new egg for the parts you want since they have a great selection , then check other sites such as tiget direct and amazon for better pricing , newegg also has some pre bundled machines which arent bad at all just basic mid level computers for a good price , you can usually pick one up for around 300 and all you need is an OS .

Ssd drives are very big right now , i have no experience with them so i cant say anything good or bad about them , however i can say that i have a 10k rpm velociraptor from WD and i have never had a problem and the speeds are amazing, ive used many of these before and they are great , i use the velociraptor for the OS and programs ect and then store all my data on a regular 7200 rpm

If you don't want to compare apples to oranges, you can't compare a PC you built to a pre-build. It's like comparing cooking at home to a restaurant. When you configure a Mac Pro next to a Precision Workstation, the price difference isn't nearly as big.

This derailed pretty quickly.

Dave just needs a simple computer for his start up. He can easily get what he needs with the credit at BB. Few hundred bucks and he's good, then down the line if he wants to blow a few grand on a setup that could melt your face, he'll have that option. No point in tying up all your funds before you've made any sales.

+1 agreed. Keep it on track.

My suggestion would be mac. Ive had a computer business and all of my customers had pc's and laptops running windows. Ive owned a mac for 2 years not 1 problem with it and its quicker then any new pc or laptop running windows i've ever had. Not putting down windows just stating my experience. From what the op stated he was looking for a new computer (not harddrives)
