To many it may seem as though we are long past the storm, but for too many it's still as though it happened just last week.

The organizations like Robin Hood & Samaratins Pride have done SO much to help the folks out here! We see them everyday helping to do the rip outs in folks homes and then help rebuilding them.

Life is not normal here...we wave wearily at each other and offer words of encouragement and then go back to sorting through the disconnected pieces of an existence we once trusted to be the same tomorrow as it was today.

Our kids are lucky if they can be in their own schools and not have to be bused somewhere else. The stores we used to shop in are gone. The garbage trucks come by twice a day, 7 days a week to pick up the pieces of our lives that don't fit back together again.

Our neighbors..so many have already left or plan to..it's so sad. Many can't afford to rebuild without help, especially the older folks. So many are sharing their homes with friends and relatives to help them till their houses can once again be lived in and as much as you know how much they appreciate having a warm place to sleep in the weak moments you hear the same words so often..I just want to go home.

Do donate if you can afford to, but if you can't, please do say a prayer for those who have lost so much and think good thoughts for us.

Very well said Kathy. Please give what you can. I was delivering food and clothing to the people in Midland Beach and you can't believe the destruction that many of these people endured and continie to endure. Hopefully everyone will soon be able to return to their normal lives.

Im praying as well my friend, family lost everything in there house. My cousin lost two cars and basement also 6 feet of water damaged there upstairs to there house in Howard beach. Friend who I work with lost the basement and all there clothing he saw worse even doe he suffering sandy damage she caused on staten island. So all I can say is pray so that we can recover and move forward cause if we look back to that day we will never heal. The memories and experience we have will live with us the rest of our lives. God bless us all and give us strength peace, health and happiness.

Here on the Rock is very slow going! NYC Rapid Repair is trying, but they seem to be terribly confused. They make appointments that they don't keep, send works then they end up being pulled off the jobs because of the mold.
I for one have power to some parts of my house, my basement is still filled with mold all over the beams. We have to live with it being told not to even go near it. No, we have no where else to go. There is no help for those of us with pets, especially pit bulls. A very close family friend has had to move into a hotel, and their dog has had to go to a "dog sitter" that is charging them $350 per month. We couldn't house their dog on account of my son's male pit who does not get along with other male dogs. This is a young couple with a child, one income which is on hold for now. Father can't go to work because he has to run around addressing their housing situation. Their apartment was under water, and will take at least a month for repairs to be done. They also lost their car along with ALL of their belongings.
Help is suppose to be coming, but only God knows when. The insurance companies are dragging their feet on the little they cover. FEMA is no better!! We waste so many days just sitting around waiting on people that never show.
Respond, and Rebuild are really working hard to help, but they too have lost many of their volunteers.
The children in my neighborhood are being bused in "Charter Buses" to other parts of the city. Total chaos with the children going all over the place. Sometimes they are not even on the correct bus, and drivers have no way of knowing.
What I have written here is just the tip of the iceberg.
In conclusion: Please do pray for all of us!!!!

I wished their houses are in the Rock. I am sure FEMA will be very, if not overly, cautious in spending the remaining budget they have now for the Sandy victims.

Guess what: It is a branch of FEMA that we pay Flood Insurance Premiums to!!
Take for instance my case: I have to pay for $250,000.00 worth of insurance, but will never see that kind of money because all that is covered through the flood insurance is the "foundation, boiler, hot water heater, sheetrock, flooring, washer/dryer, stove" if you had those things in the basement. All other personal belongings are not covered.....
FEMA is not giving me nothing that we haven't over paid for over the past 6 years.

Awilida I sense, understand, and can relate to your frustration as you know. Everything is extremely slow going around our parts. I finally had a hot water heater installed yesterday and still waiting on a boiler. Mold has been an issue. I've had lumps in my throat the last few weeks as an allergic reaction to mold spores. I bought a couple of testkits and both shown extreme amounts of mold in the air on the second floor!! I bought a few hepa air filters and that seems to have helped greatly. MY throat irritation has cleared and we seem to breathe better with less congestion.

There are lots of things to get angry and frustrated about. I am dealing with a condo board that has used our resources to give themselves all their utilites while the rest of had NONE and wait here like helpless schmucks. I was also told that if I hire my own plumbers, electricians, and contractors that I will not be reimbursed since the condo entered contract with companies (whom apparently can't get things done). My blood boils when I think about this. Anywayy.......

This has been of great help the last month and it can help your tank as well

Richie, same here, and we are not dealing with a condo board. With us is; we need to let Rapid Repair do the work for the same reason as you. If we get the work done on our own, (which we can't cause we still do not have any insurance $$), we will also not be reimbursed. Today I finally got a hold of some guy that called, and left a message December 1. Took me 14 days to get a hold of him, he now told me that it was in their system that we opted out of their program. I asked him to show me where I signed opting out. I then went out into the street looking for the supervisor that is suppose to be out here. I found another gentlemen, he made some calls, and added our house to his lot of homes to be worked on. Waiting on the crew now.. In the mean time I got punched in the stomach again. My Yava, the white & brindle pup in my avatar has been diagnosed with terminal cancer!:sad: I don't know how much more bad news I can take.
