Aren't you afraid of the metal around the rim of the tank leaching into the tank?

I know I'm gonna regret this question.:lol_large

Where the heck do you get these ideas from? Your a hoot my friend.:)

Awilda, it is a concern so I may have to put in carbon to counteract that. I will finish this tank build tomorrow, I have a few more modifications.
In the meantime, it is going through a mini cycle.

it's probably better to run carbon in a reactor rather than a mesh bag. while you're at it, since you'll be doing sps, you might as well run gfo also. i prefer biopellets but that's another pump to run....you may need a chiller then.

btw if you need a le micro elk horn colony, i got a neon green one. free if you pick up. can ship if you mail me a self addressed first class stamped envelope.

also will you be running ozone on this tank?

OK I finished my tank build. I did have one set back, a tank crash. No, literally the entire set up crashed on the floor but I managed to save the live rock and it is back running, I hope It doesn't go through a mini cycle again.
I turned off the circulation for the picture but for circulation I use a wooden Coralife air stone.
For heat I use a 50 watt titanium heater set to 79 degrees.
For filtration I went with a Vortex XL diatom filter to remove any hazziness in the water.
It may also help remove ich as will the Aquazone Plus 200 ozonizer with ORP probe.
As you can see there is a refugium with caulerpa and I have an automatic Vodka dosing system which I may have over done a bit.
Fot livestock I was going to stock it with mandarins, I decided against the ribbon eel but may reconsider in the future.
I appreciate your comments and suggestions as I am a Noob.

OMG, I may have a problem. The tank seems to be growing a little nusience macro algae.
All I did was add an automatic feeder and a lighted refugium.
There also seems to be diatoms.
I may have over fed a little. Is all this normal for a new reef?
For livestock I decided against the mandarins and went for a hippocampus erectus or seahorse. I figured all he needs to do is keep his snout in the water because the rest of him doesn't really need to stay wet, so I put sun tan lotion and Oil of Olei on the rest of his body.

can i have some of that macro?

btw the seahorse might not be a good idea....it will eat that single pod you have in there. i would switch his snout in the tank in the morning and in the refugium at night to give the pod population to recover.

also uv might help with the green water in the tank.

it's coming along nicely....keep up the good work.

Great job! Can't wait to see the next build. You might consider keeping the tank in one area of the house instead of moving it around all the time disrupting the balance and giving the chance for your system to flourish.
