This young 25 year old police officer saw this homeless man without shoes and blisters on his feet so he went into a store and bought him a 100 dollar pair of boots. He said he will keep the receipt so whenever times look tough he will look at it and tell himself things could be worse.

There is always hope in humanity!!!!

You just need to look past the jerks to see the good ones!:) My youngest son who can be a total jerk at times has done similarly a few times. That is when I am most proud of him, and able to forgive him for his jerkiness.;)

Just found out the man who the officer gave the boots to was seen walking around bare foot again. speculation is he sold the boots :(

Well all that mattered was the thought and the true act of kindness on the officers part.

A couple of my buddies that are cops as well as us when I was still on the FDNY would never buy stuff like that for homeless for that exact reason. We would on the other hand buy them a hot meal and give it to them. I'd rather feed someone than give possessions. Boots can be stolen and dont quell an empty stomach- also remember not all homeless are weak and frail and the ones that arent are willing to kill another homeless person so if he got jacked of the boots he most likely wouldn't report it.

Hunger pains run deeper than any blister or callous there is. If you see a homeless person this holiday season, bring them a nice cheeseburger platter from a diner and a nice drink to wash it down. Believe me Ive seen the eyes on a man that was starving light up when you place that hot tin in his hands and seen him bask in the smell of fresh cooked beef and then chow down like it was his last meal.

I've also seen that same man wave to us in our rig EVERY time we drove past him from then on.

Turns out he is not homeless, has an apartment in the bronx. Paid for by section 8, receives social security and veterans benefits. This is why i dont give to people on the street, there are people who really need help he is not one.

Still a nice act on the cop just was a waste of his money.

I believe he is also mentally ill if you read thru what the military's assistance includes. According to the City Services, he has a history of refusing services, that possibly includes the apartment paid for by the Section 8 and veteran benefits. As of today, all information seems to point to that he is mentally ill but not necessarily a cheater. He is reported to have stayed in shelters recently further implies he does not consider the apartment as a home too much. I think what he really needs is mental treatment.
