Yes, I am extremely proud of these two young ladies! I was there when each one was born, and to see them grow in to such fine caring young ladies is so heart warming.
Below is an excerpt of an article about one of my very good long time friend's daughter, and granddaughter doing their thing to help the Far Rockaway residents. What the article doesn't say is that Tionna went to her school guidance counselor asking on how she, and the school could help the Sandy victims. The guidance counselor dismissed her as if her request was a nuisance. Tionna went home crying, her mom (Charonda) called the school, and the person she spoke to told her that it would be done. Next day Tionna was called out of classes. She was taken to the students library which was filled with all sorts of donations to the point that the students could no longer use their library, and the rest is history..
Newsday: Kellenberg HS students start Sandy relief
Excerpt of article by Newsday?s Scott Eilder:
Arriving in yellow school buses, the group staffed tables outside St. Gertrude Parish, on Beach 38th Street, itself packed with donations, including apparel and cleaning supplies.
The group from Kellenberg was a welcome presence for some residents of Far Rockaway, who have become accustomed to long lines at volunteer sites post-Sandy.
It was a scene repeated on many streets in Far Rockaway. Some residents queued up waiting to speak with Federal Emergency Management Agency officials and others to receive much-needed supplies or food from volunteer groups. Police officers stood guard on nearly every street
