Kurt, the people suing know that its a state agency, it pretty much means free easy money in lawsuits, sadly thats our tax money thats going to them. If you would ever (god forbid) get hit by a moving vehicle you want it to be a municipal one, not a private vehicle.

I don't know why people thought it would be a good idea to have a government run non profit company maintain and control their power. Completely non political, its extremely hard to make improvements on a grid as large as what LIPA covers while still maintaining low rates on a non profit organization budget.
