The opening ceremonies were ok. I wouldn't say they were great, but ok isn't bad. I was once again very touched and moved when the IOC flagbearers paid their respect to Muhammed Ali. Every time I see him I get all choked up. He was a hero to so many kids of my generation. It pains me to see him suffering so much.

I loved the way they ceremoniously 'poured' and forged the Olympic rings. Nicely done, including raising them with the 'burn off' sparking downward.

My favorite team uniform was worn by the athlete's from Cameroon.

I'm excited to see, and root for, the South African double amputee runner. Running on carbon fiber prosthesis in the main Olympics (not the Paralympics), against the competitors who've got all their limbs in tact, is a feat I couldn't imagine. What a drive and will to succeed!

Michael Phelps seemed like he was having an out of body experience when he was being interviewed after losing the 400 IM to Ryan Lochte (who I was rooting for). Total 'deer in the headlight's' syndrome. I did feel bad for him.

Been loving the games so far. Misty & Kerri are looking strong again. Just a crying shame they've been 'elected to' change their game uniforms. I doubt very much they were complaining about wearing bikinis during their matches. Seems unfair that swimmers can wear their Speedo's, but beach volleyball they need to cover up. :banghead:

All in all, the sports I've seen so far have been nicely presented, the athlete's stories are always pulling at our heart strings, and the competition has been hard fought. Go USA!!! :usa1:

I thought the opening was an odd mix with some outstanding highlights.

I also think the coverage is the worst I've ever seen for the Olympics. Bob Costas interjections between taped highlights are unnecessary and he doesn't seem like he is even interested in what he is reporting.
While I enjoy seeing our athletes, I'd like to see more of the other competitors and maybe the scoreboards which they seem to rarely show in the events I have been watching. Just seeing one competitors score with nothing to compare it to is useless.

Any can someone explain to me why..if we all know this is being shown tape delayed for prime time - why do they need to hold off all of the finals until 11-midnight and why oh why do we need to waste needless minutes waiting for an athletes score to finally appear?! They could have put more competitors races/performances into that time.

This is why I rarely watch TV.

It so fun how we can verify the rumor of so and so win the medal half day later. LOL

ALL the excitement is LIVE, not hours later-even mintues later is too late.

They must think there is no need for LIVE broadcast of next Super Bowl either.

Did they REALLY need to show a commercial in the MIDDLE of that 800M (?) ladies swimming race last night?
Really?
They couldn't find 8 minutes and 15 seconds to show it from start to finish before they needed more $ from a sponsor?
:sigh:

The more i watch it gets more depressing for me. They didn't even show the well anticipated women's 100m finals. Shelly-Ann Fraser of Jam. Gold, Carmelita Jetter of USA Silver and Veronica Campbell Brown of Jam. Bronze.
