wow, great vid...i wonder how many times they had to edit for the perfect train scene and how many emergency personnel was on site. I also wonder who was already on top of the tracks to truly secure that chain...lol (sorry, you don't just roll a chain in a ball and then risk your life hanging from it) Those camera men are amazing also...tv is the best.:scratchch I know, i know...its me, i just believe nothing on tv...

Absolutely agree, staged. However, even if it is a secured chain, swinging out from the 'safety' of the supports to climb up the chain and over the wall is still nuts. The train bearing down on them didn't look good, but the climb up and over the bridge was crazy.

It is totally faked. I know that he stays in nice hotels and pretends he is sleeping in the wild.
I know they showed him building a raft....in reality, he actually took apart a raft and they played it backwards and it looked like he was building (someone else built 2 rafts...1 for use an one for "bear" to take apart on camera).

Les Stroud (Canadian) is the man!!! His show is great and very real!
There is also some old Aussie guy who is awesome (but his show is only on occasionally).

The truth is both of these guys are tough and crazy.
Les stroud never climbed a trestle swinging from a chain. And Bear Grylls sleeps in a hotel. Bear was British SAS which makes Rambo look like a Cub Scout and Les, well he is Canadian.
What do we do? Own fish. I don't see any of us doing anything close to this.

Les Stroud never climbed up the support structure of a rail bridge because no part of that is in line with actual survival techniques. Les is far less exciting because it's based more in reality using real techniques you can actually utilize yourself. If you were to go into the jungle using the "skills" Bear teaches you'd be puking out of both ends by day 3 and half dead from unecessary injuries. Slow and steady determination is what survival is about.

Bear was also a member of the French Foreign Legion. He also summitted Everest year and a half after suffering heavy injuries(partially crushed 3 vertebrae) from a parachuting accident.

I don't know about any of you but I don't have anything that extreme on my resume (well one thing but I won't get into it)

At 23 I was drunk in the ARMY- he was taking pictures of himself at the summit of the highest place on earth.

No one can dispute, even if the show is cushy and setup---He is a BAD ASS no if ands or buts about it.

I will admit though, Les Stroud builds a beautiful shelter out of leaves from tropical trees.

I'm not debating the bad assery of Bear but the show is just fluff and to be honest if anyone were to find themselves in any of those situations and emulated his techniques there would be a lot of "WTF?" among the rescuers when their body was eventually recovered. I'd rather share a leaf shelter with Les than a rotting goat skin with Bear any day.

Absolutely 100% I agree Jared. Just would hate to see people bash him for whatever reason when he's done some pretty outrageous stuff that most wouldn't attempt.

He's impressive, his show not so much. I would even say it borders on irresponsible.

Yep you know some freak right now is staring at a ball of chain they used to tie their pit bull up in the yard with sweating thinking about the escapade he's planning on the nearest bridge lol....J/K but some people will try the stupidest stuff because they saw it on tv.
