I was thinking about buying a mac computer. And I know Intel chip is much faster and cheaper than their old CPU. Oh btw, I heard you can also install windowsXP on intel base mac computer using bootcamp program. Right now it's a beta mode but future Mac OS will have it. I think you can download bootcamp program from mac site. Goodluck.

but all the old app's will work on the intel books right?

I really don't want to buy all new versions of all my adobe and macromedia programs, not to mention all the other crap.

the softeware upgrade will cost more than the laptop :headache:

wait and get one with the super drive.

when I bought my laptop new, it was cheaper to get the ram from www.newegg.com It was about 2/3 the price from crucial.

I also just bought a 100gig laptop drive for $140. Add $20 for an external case, and now I have an 80 gig external drive. for less than $200.
And the last time I checked, the drive was down to $120

B. I just got a new dig camera, so I'm looking for the largest external drive i can afford, though I hate spending money on large drives then seeing the price drop.

i guess i'll be waiting for more macbooks to ship, amazon must get them sooner or later.

Be VERY carefull where you get your ram. All ram is NOT created equal and bad ram isn't worth it if someone paid you to use it. If you want cheap ram you can go on pricewatch.com but good luck using it.

Crucial is owned by micron whom owns most of the patents on Ram. They make good stuff. I'd pay the extra bucks for crucial or corsair ram anyday. When you buy from newegg you could be getting repackaged value ram.

I like to get my apple stuff from the refurb section of apple's website (look for the red "sale" tag.) It has the same waranty plus you have the benefit that a human actually checked to make sure it works. When it rolls off of the assembly line brand new you have a ~% chance that it is a lemon. When you buy refurbished that percentage chance is almost nill. Plus if anything goes wrong with it once you mention that you bought it "refurbished" apple is really good at letting you slide if your warranty has expired.

Also in store prices for refurb merchandise are usually an extra 10% off what you see online! Next time you're at an apple store ask if they have any refurbs in the back, they usually do.

Jonathan. I buy good ram. I'm a gamer, and i usually overclock my systems. so I need good ram to go fast! I'm a big fan of Kingston. It's cheaper than crucial and it's rated as good.

You can build an external cheaper than you can buy one. If you're looking for big storage, you might want to build a small raid tower. I'm not a fan of really big drives without backup of some kind. Would you like 500gig of pictures to crash?

What camera did you get? I'm thinking about a Canon 20d.

I got the nikon D200. I was going to get the canon 5D for the full frame, but the body is made pretty cheap. I hate the 1.5 x of the lens with those dumb little dx sensors, but what the hell, I decided this is not going to replace my medium format or 4x5 camera's anytime soon. I'm going to use it to shoot fashion and interiors, and my tank ;) anything I shoot for my personal artwork I'm still going to whip out my 6x7.

a guy i work with got the macbook pro. it is pretty cool, but he had no clue how to work it since he is used to windows. was kinda funny watching him call customer service 5 times in a row to figure things out :D i really liked it though. never used a mac, but seems easy enough to me.
