aaron challenged me for sat by jhale's place. i guess i better warm up the rusty legs and arms.
WOW, just noticed this thread. I used to be a very big handball player myself. Played mostly in Manhattan, West 4th street used to be where all the top players played.
One thing i was never able to learn or do is the "SPIN" serve. After serving when the ball hits the floor it immediate goes left or right. I've played a couple of guys who could do this but they never explained how they did it
This could be done with regular ball and small ball.
Anyone know what i'm talking about?

you mean put a hook on the ball? The principle is easy just actually pulling it off is harder cause you need to whip it in a certain way.......the hook is also easier to pull off with the smallball then the big ball

LOL, yes i meant HOOK, been a long time, forgot the lingo. I belive your fingers had to be in a certain postition, but yes you are right, i was told it was easier with the small ball.
You know i just recently joined the YMCA and started playing 4 wall racquetball. There were a bunch of old guys playing 4 wall handball, i was very impressed
4 wall racquet ball is hard enough, imagine with the hand! Helium was very fun, made me feel POWERFUL

I know how to hook the ball on the serve :biggrin:. It is definitely much easier to accomplish w/ a small ball, but will catch some players unaware with a big ball. The key is being able to 'whip' the ball, like Alvin said.
With that said...when are you coming up to the Bronx, to experience MR Handball for yourself?

I've played with an "Helium" ball :tired: I feel it takes away from any true skill you have, but it definitely improves your reaction time.

I agree on what you said about Helium, it actually screws up your timing if you play regular ball afterwards.
But honestly, i play basketball, tennis, racquetball, and handball is the only thing that really kills me the next day. My entire body would be sore from playing handball. Maybe its my extra 60lbs of body fat or maybe my age
