AVG is good. Malawarebytes is good too. If you already have a virus then reformat the drive. Safest way to get rid of the virus.

Run Malwarebytes to scan it. Then install AVG for antivirus protection. Both free versions.

I agree, but if you don't have anything than I would also use Superantispyware. I have found that it has found stuff that Malwarebytes has not. You can also use "ComboFix" while not as popluar I think that it works great. Also does not have to be installed.

COMBOFIX

AVG FRee

Malwarebytes

Super Anti Spyware

ALL FREE!!!!

All already mentioned products are good. However if you suspect something already wrong with your system prior to the installation of a scanner; best if you scanned the system in safe mode so it is using minimal processes and/or drivers.

We have 2 Macs and two pcs.

My pcs have been having problems.. Both..

Well heres my deal, stuff has been running much slower- mainly my internet browsers - chrome and have been getting some pop ups. I generally just ctrl alt dlt out of them because I refuse to click anything that isn't a system message, but I can't say the same about others in my household. Sometimes pages wont even load, and then my computer is freezing up.

Something's acting up whether it's malware or a virus.

Our other pc is linked through work an they remotely worked on it and removed some malware. Same pop ups and slowness.

Either way I have avast and avg. they aren't picking up anything. I'll try some of those other programs now.

I have even had some redirects happen. Where I would type in let's say photobucket and it will take me somewhere else. But if I go trough google it takes me to the direct site.

You can try ClamWin, an opensource AV. No need to register or anything, just d/l and install.

If you are still able to use the PC w/o any detrimental effects then the virus/malware you have isn't all that damaging. Usually the most common and annoying malware you get would pop windows up out of the blue or messages popping up in the systray.

Real bad ones will prevent you from doing anything where your only hope is using Safe Mode to try to delete the start up keys in registry and start menu or where ever they exist but if you have to do this, then you'll need to reformat since it deletes some necessary Windows files.

Anyway, I just installed it a few weeks ago on one of my laptops and I saw this being used on a Windows Server VMs when I was in VMware training so if VMWare uses it then I assume it's decent enough to use on my personal.

Try eset online scanner, excellent product
http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/
I always recommend to invest on a good paid antivirus. I like eset, but if you want to use a free one, I would go with either AVG or Microsoft Essentials.

I agree with using an online sometimes. But that will not work if you need to start in safe mode. If I am scanning I will start in safe mode without networking. You don't want the virus/malware to reach out to another site over the net

You are correct, that's why I advise to buy an antivirus (or at least download the two free ones mentioned above), Antivirus it's an essential software now days if you own a windows machine, (and soon any apple devices, virus and malware are coming too on those devices and android devices).
