Even during the day time, if I feel my glasses shake when you play music, it is unacceptable to me. Did the law state you are allowed to play music as loud as you want?

I don't play it THAT loud that the neighbors' walls are rocking and the windows blowing out....that would be outrageous. It is loud, but not to that point. Lets not get carried away here lol...But yet again you can still file a complaint with 311, but keep in mind they will remind you that cut off time is 10 pm

10pm is not really the cutoff. Any noise that is unreasonable is outlawed at any time.

And the type of music can make a difference. If someone is playing classical music or hard core rap. I don't know wha you are playing. But there is a difference. The bass on some music is ridiculous......

yes, hardcore rap can go hard on the bass at times, but like I said, not to the point of any decibel damages.

I kind of remember the legal noise level in an living area is 50 dBA in day time and 45 dBA at night under the DEP code. I cannot remember what DOB's levels are. These dBA levels applies to all eight octave bands so, Classical or Drum and Dass are considered the same as long as one of the band exceeds the level. To measure just one band is not easy though. Even though many people feel that bass is disturbing but the truth is higher frequencies like 2K-4K Hz are more dangerous to our health than the bass when played at the same energy level.

MORE classical musicians have hearing loss over rock musicians.

if the music can cause that in another apartment, the one inside the room where the music is playing will be deaf instantly.

If more than one neighbor is coming to you and complaining than it stands to reason that you are doing something wrong (to put it nicely).

Like Thirty5 said, 10pm is meaningless. You don't live in a college dorm, you live in an apartment and with that comes some responsibility to not be a douche to your neighbors. Whether they have kids or not, are elderly or not, you don't have any more right to infringe on their peace at home than they do to infringe on yours. If any of them actually called the police you would get a summons (at least one)without question, especially if you tried to explain yourself as you have here. Expecting others to wear noise cancelling headphones because you have some ridiculous sense of entitelment is absurd. If you want to listen to loud music get a good pair of headphones and stop annoying your neighbors.

I don't like some of my neighbors either but I do my best to not create problems for them because I wouldn't want them bugging me either. It's a two way street and if you think you can do what you want and everyone else should bend to your will than you're probably going to end up finding out that there are people out there perfectly willing to put you in your place in the most miserable way possible. You do what you want though, issues like this tend to sort themselves out in the end.

Yea well I don't care if people think I'm a D!ck lol I'm just honest. My situation wasn't an apartment it was a house. An apartment is different and it sucks because you have other people all around you. When I lived at my last place (not the same place I was talking about ) it was a house too but made into apartments, the 2 idiots downstairs who played video games below my sons room in the basement would be up all night and cursing at people on their head sets that was not cool because my son couldn't sleep. I asked them to chill w/ it but they didn't it was late at night. My upstairs neighbor used to smoke when he was going up and down the stairs and it would stink up my living room I asked him not to do that either and he told me ok then proceeded to go inside with a cigarette. Don't get me wrong I'm a smoker but I smoke OUTSIDE. There's a baby in the house there should be respect. You get what you give. If it was during the day and my kid wasn't going to sleep I wouldn't care if they play video games all day because it's during the day and theirs no point in getting into a fist fight over something stupid. It got to the point where if they wanted to blast music I would just blast music. Have fun blasting the beatles I'll just put on some pantera ;) One night when I was moving out I blasted hip hop all night til 5 or 6am just for a little pay back lol One of them was screaming at the top of his lungs that he wanted to kill me so me and my fiance' got a good laugh at that LOL. I said ohhh you don't like when people keep you up all night being loud..maybe you shouldn't curse out people in oklahoma all night longgg! Needless to say I didn't hear any more video games late at night, then moved so I didn't care. People are A holes what can you do.

Also, by the way, what time it is is irrellevant. In a society where people work all hours, your 8, 9, 10pm mandate for quiet is moot. My normal isnt your normal. I get up for work at midnight on friday and saturday nights, you can imagine how much NYC neighbors care.

Just be respectful. And if you have kids, letting them scream all night is one thing, but quit the running! How would you feel if I pounded on your bedroom walls all night whille you are trying to sleep on the other side. Not gonna happen.

I've only lived in my neighborhood for about 3 years. Last summer the kid across the street was in some band, so 8am on a Saturday i heard the drumming and guitar playing. I was ok maybe he had a "gig" on saturday night and was practicing. Next Saturday, 8am same thing. I walked over and said do me a favor, can you wait until at least 930-10 so people can sleep. He said "no i'll practice when i want". His mother came out and said whats the problem, i said please keep it down, its saturday morning not even the landscapers are out yet. She gave the blah blah speech that they're allowed my brothers and cousins are all cops blah blah. I said listen i'm asking politely as a courtesy to all your neighbors, no attitude just being polite and courteous. They stopped. Had it kept going, well then lets just say what goes around comes around.

Impossible not to generalize but level of education usually has a direct correlation with consideration for others. Do unto others doesn't apply as some like it loud, some don't. When I went to Japan I was amazed at the silence on the train. They respect other ppls peace. Us Americans do not. It is what it is.
