Getting off the Grid

Who here has been off the grid and tell us about the savings if any?I'm a Con Ed customer and went with IDT.

i think its a different supplier. 1 ;of my friend is off the grid. He only pays like $10 i think monthly for service charge.

I checked into that solar panel thingy. Its expensive, even if the governments giving rebates. An average house will cost $20k - $30k. You'll save $1k a yr. So you'll see the pay off in 20-30 yrs. Not worth it right now. Unles you got spare change and don't care about it.

It is a different supplier.Supposed to shop around for you to find the cheapest energy.

Depending on a homes usage and cost/Kw the savings can be significantly more than that.

The problem with going "Truly" off the grid is the size of the battery bank needed, the cost as well as the work involved in correctly maintaining the batteries.

Same schpeel as ConEd, 3rd parties such as IDT buy allotted energy in bulk from ConEd and resell. Just like RCN reselling Verizon POTS (Plain Old Telephone System) back in the day. Feel free to Google IDT Energy Fraud or IDT Energy Scam...
