Im postponing my tank upgrade to explore the world of drums, Ive always wanted to so what better time than now, no?

Anyways this is what I have found so far that seem like a good starter kit, Keep in mind that I dont have the cash to buy something top of the line, and this will most likely be replaced by a better set as I hopefully continue on.

so heres two that im looking at;

Ludwig $450
http://www.music123.com/Ludwig-Accent-Combo-LR1125RC-Drum-Set-W--Z3-Cymbals-i115285.music

Verve $300
http://www.music123.com/Verve-Vibe-Master-With-Cymbals-i24312.music

Both supposedly need some upgrading on the heads and cymbals, but a friend said the verve drums are nice and heavy made.

I really am on a budget, so please keep this in mind, and I would love to hear any other suggestions, feels weird being a newbie once again.

Also if anyone knows some good places to get lessons PLMK:)

I'am a drummer and a collector of vintage drums.

my suggestion would be to check out taye drums
made by the same guy who started Ayotte custom drums,None other than Ray Ayotte.

my next choice would be Tama Rock stars if your going to play metal
as for cymbals I'll suggest Sabian AAX metal series.

you might be able to save some $$$ wityh a used set via Ebay
I've bought some nice sets on ebay

whoa!

Thanks for the suggestions, youve got quite a collection there, I was actually hoping you would chime in. :thrash:

Any other advice for a newbie? Also I was reading to go w/ a 4 cymbal set as a 3 set is too limiting, is this true

Oh and also could you comment on Ludwig?

Thanks:smile:

as far as cymbals go High hats, ride 2 crashes are fine
splash and china are always handy but not needed.

I'm not a fan of modern day ludwigs
check out
www.ghostnote.net

there are a bunch of guys who build custom drums
you have to register and sign in to view the forum.

My advice would be to find a higher end used set on ebay
better quality for the same money.

if youre near Rockaway NJ Richies Music center on 46 is worth the trip
lots of different drums on display and a large selection of cymbals

any questions feel free to PM me!

warning it becomes an addiction!

Good reefing, good music, good beer what more could you want out of life. Kinda agree with Frank about Ebay you can get some good deals there on instruments. The Metalhead in me aleays liked Tama drums and zildian cymbals. 2 crash and a high hat. But that comes from a guitar player so take it where it comes from. Just play and enjoy. :)

Damn chief, impressive, Tama and roto toms - must have been a Niel Pert fan :)

Waiting for Yessongs to chime in with Alan White? I personally am partial to Carl Palmer and Stweart Copeland and Ziljan's have become too tin-ny - Hot back in the early 80's, but like many industries, this areas has benefitted from great engineering.

Never owned a kit, love to play and feel natural behind a set. Wish I had it in my to do it - maybe a few BBQ's at Franks Place will seal the deal -

I'm just a bass player here but I say just buy a kit.
I've had thre drum kits each one was crappy. But I found some good drum heads and learning how to tune them can get you far. The most important thing is getting to play just bu a kt and play it everyday. When I was a kid the best drummers always seemed to be these wacky kids with beat up drum kits held together by duct tape.

Just get something so you can play and then save up for a good kit when you know what you like.

Its ALOT of money, for me anyways, I think I might need to sell my tunzes to pay for this :banghead:

Oh man, I think im gonna rock myself right out of reefing now
not so great when you figure in shipping no different than buying in a store.
you can figure 150-200 more for an entry level set of cymbals.

Freehold music on RT 9 is a taye dealer give thema call and see what they are getting for the same set.

Thanks, but ive decided to make all well with my 1st love, the reef.:D

So after everything is done with the upgrade I will be saving up for drums, but that will be a whiles from now. Thanks for the offer.

BTW has anyone ever used "practice pads"? someone recommended I work on that while saving for the drums
