Nikon D3100 and Meade 125 Telescope pictures of Jupiter Last night. It was hard to capture the lighting and exposure in Manual mode without getting a little fuzzy but i did take a video of it moving across the lens. Here are the jupiter pictures. I'll post the moon pictures later tonight. Enjoy.

Rob, very cool pix. Thanks for sharing.

Cool shots. Have you seen the recent pics of Saturn taken by Cassini as it passed by?

Those pix of Saturn were too perfect. Unfortunately it makes the layman (me) question their authenticity. I soooo want to believe they are actual photo's of the ringed planet, but jeez Louise, those pix look like they were taken in a photo studio they're so perfect. How can they be so perfect 75 million miles away? Absolutely beautiful pix, amazing technology, ridiculous clarity.

The camera technology they use is way beyond what's commercially available, by now probably well beyond 100mp and by the time it gets here there's probably some degradation but I'm sure they have software that fixes that too. It's a pretty awesome pic and after seeing Rob's post I'm kind of wanting a telescope again lol. I'm a giant geek, my holiday list is a toss up between a microscope or a telescope.

Also, for anyone curious that tiny bluish spec in the rings to the top left is earth.

I've actually looked at Saturn and Uranus (cue jokes here) and it literally looks like little stickers were put on the front of the telescope. If you're looking for a scope i bought it online i think telescopes.com and it was half price from any store and shipped in 3 days. The adapter for the camera was $15. The moon comes out immaculate the planets i'm still trying and i'm waiting for one of the nebula's to come into view. Problem is waking up at 4AM on a wednesday when i have to get up for work at 630.

are you using a wedge for the scope? i know some of the meade scopes can be set to polar alignment. using it as an equatorial will help with the pics of jupiter. Also you wont have to deal with field rotation.

great moon shots btw.

i was suggesting doing a polar alignment so you got better tracking, not so you could find jupiter ;)

other than the moon and maybe venus, the exposures are just too long on most other stuff to get a clear shot without good tracking.

In case anyone is wondering tonight around 930-10 locate the moon and look about 30 degrees down and to the left and you'll see the brightest "star" in the sky. Thats jupiter. Its supposed to be spotless tonight so i'll try to get better pictures again.

Nice scopes. How big is the Meade sct and is the refractor the televue 102? If you aren't using the refractor and it is indeed a triplet apo, let me know. Would totally buy it from you.
