came across this through google.

http://www.allerca.com/html/hypoallergenic.html

kinda reminded me of the movie the 6th day....not the same but that's what came to my mind.

anyway, all this came about when i was thinking about my cat. i had a cat when i was still in school. she traveled with me through college, dental school, marriage, and lived until my second child could walk. she did live with my parents when my wife and i lived in a no pet apartment. when we got our own condo, we found out that my wife is deadly allergic to the cat.....she had a full blown asthmatic attack after a week of having the cat around. so back to my parents she went (the cat not the wife....lol) until she passed away at at the approximate age of 12-13 yrs. she was a rescued kitten from port washington animal league.

i do want another cat hence the search for a hypoallergenic one. is there such a thing as a less allergy inducing natural cat breed beside this "genetically selected" ones?
i'm really tempted but am skeptical about the company.
so what do you think?

Its the chem in the saliva that ppl are allergic to isn't it? Siberians are suppose to have less of the chemical in their spit, so yeah they might shed a lot but besides that I hear they make great pets more like a dog in personality than cats. I'm trying to find a breeder close by but no luck so far, would like to play around with one to test my allergies.

Some people who normally have allergies hace no prob w/ hypo cats, some still do.
My cat that you met is a bengal, bengals are hypoallergenic. Some of my friends/family who are generally allergic to cats have had issues, some have not.

With that said, of the ones who claim to still have the allergies, they never seem to feel the allergies until they are aware that a cat is in the room, then they complain

There is no such thing as a hypoallergenic animal, cats and dogs are not stuffed toys. I agree some animals do have different effects on certain people and some are worse than others but all our furry friends even the so called hypo allergenic ones and hairless animals out there contain the skin oils required to set allergic people off.
