I know some of you have mentioned that you were interested in beer brewing. I just won a full sized bourbon barrel from the Brooklyn Brewery, and am probably going to be spending an entire weekend brewing in order to fill it. So if anyone is interested in helping out, learning how to brew, or just watching what is bound to be a fun but minor-disaster-filled weekend, drop me a line and I'll keep you posted as to when I'm doing it. (Two days of drinking while trying to make 50g of beer is bound to be somewhat problematic... bring dry clothes and take public transportation!)

That place must smell amazing!

Beer, you went to the event last Wednesday? We were planning on going but my GF ended up having to work so I didn't go. I'd ask how it was but apparently it was pretty good, at least for you lol.

Beer, I'm very interested in coming. Please keep me posted when you have dates.

Will do.

Once I get the barrel, I'll decide on the best style of beer to brew. It's originally a bourbon barrel, then was used for Brooklyn Black Ops, so I'm debating an Imperial Stout, an IPA, or a Belgian Tripel, depending on the aroma and stain on the interior of the barrel.

Once I decide on a style, I'll go get some yeast and start culturing it up so that I have enough for a full barrel. I'll also need to check my grain inventory to make sure I have enough grain. I'll probably need at least 100lbs of grain in total.

I vote American IPA, and now I'm excited about it so anything else might make me cry... just so you know.

Try an Allagash Curieux... it's a bourbon barrel aged Belgian strong ale. It will bring tears to your eyes!

A good American IPA should have subtle citrus notes that will probably get destroyed by the Oak and other flavors that are soaked into the barrel. If I do an IPA, it would probably be an imperial IPA with noble hops. The spiciness of the style would compliment the barrel flavors nicely.

I bow to your wisdom, I am kind of partial to IPAs in general but I like pretty much everything when it's done right, with a few exceptions.

See if you can find a bottle of Allagash Curieux, or a bottle of Firestone Parabola, these are awesome examples of barrel aged Belgians and Stouts. Curieux is probably my favorite beer of the year thus far. Barring my long standing favorites like Cantillion Gueuze of course.
