Irene is almost out of here (yet it's still very windy here in Brooklyn) and I thought about going to the beach somewhere in Long Island tomorrow and taking pictures of the creatures that may have washed ashore. What do you think? I don't know if they'll open the beach, but any recommendations? I don't think I will get to work tomorrow so that would be a fun day for me&my camera:) Thanks!

That sounds like a cool idea I might be up for that too. You might also consider walking the streets to see what's swimming around lol. When were you planning on coming out here? I know a few good spots that might have some stuff.

Yeah, the first beach was open but there was nothing but trash all over the place so we moved on. The rest were all shut down by the fuzz and we weren't allowed in. We ended up calling it after that and on the way home I tried a little further east but it was the same story, no access anywhere. We were pretty bummed.

All of Robert Moses (Jones Beach) is off limits too, which makes no sense at all to me. It all looked fine from my ride down Ocean Parkway today. The ocean looked peaceful.

I have been by the shore near where I live and can't say that I see anything washed up from the storm. The fish & creatures (pipe fish, crabs, clams, pods, grass shrimp, even all of the sponges still are attached where they were prior to the storm) in the canal by my boat are unchanged and going about their business as usual. I haven't seen the swans that are usually around, but will look for them this weekend when I take the boat out.

There is an area near me (not accessible to the public - before anyone asks) where a lot of the tropicals show up (around this time of year) and I saw none of those washed up there either.
