So as some of you may know I recently had to put down my dog Rocky who was a 11.5 year old golden retriever due to internal organ failure.

I adopted a dog after that, a black lab mix 8 week old puppy I named Lucky. Unknown to me the whole litter had the parvovirus, which can be fatal to dogs. Well as luck would have it my dog was one of the ones that within 24 hours passed away :/. Thankfully I was able to notify the adoption place and they rushed all the other litter-mates to the vet where they are still under care.

I am looking to adopt either a golden retriever or a Labrador retriever under the age of 1.

So I'm looking to the MR community for some help. I would love to adopt another dog, but trying to go through some agencies and after emailing a few places Ive found on petfinder has been frustrating.

All the places seem to require a fenced in yard. I looked in to fencing it in and the estimate is anywhere from $2,500 - $5,000 for a chain-link fence! Unfortunately at this time I don't have that much disposable income to complete that project as I just finished graduate school and am not working full time yet.

My family and I would be able to give the dog a forever home, where it would be provided the best life possible. Rocky and even Lucky the puppy weren't seen as dogs, but members of the family.

While I would love to adopt a dog, it seems like there are so many hoops and fences to jump in order to get to that point and then I get the feeling some of these agencies don't want to find the dogs a home.

It seems at this point if I can't find a dog to adopt between now and september then I may go buy a puppy since my home and family seem not to be good enough for these agencies.

Anyway the point of this thread is, if anyone knows of anyone who works in shelters/adoption groups or anything and think they would be able to help me in finding a dog to rescue I'd appreciate you forwarding me their information.

I'd much rather prefer to adopt/rescue a dog and give it a good home and second chance it deserves, but at this time I'm feeling discouraged in ever succeeding.

Thanks in advance!

Some background of the home it'd be going to:

- at least one adult home entire day from 7:30-6 pm until I get home from work Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Other days I'm always home.
- yard that is 48 feet x 78 feet x 48 feet (non-fenced in)
- 5 adults total living in home and always at least one home at any given time
- suburban neighborhood with access to two dog parks within 15 minutes
- daily exercise of 2 mile walks
- will be around my nephew who is 1
