I did the same to my prowler...have electric 'poppers' (trunk solenoids) that work with standard remotes! The trick is to have a 'redundant' system, in case the popper fails, or the battery goes dead!

The keys pops the door open the locks are not used since it does not have handles. Almost all shaved door cars have no use for the lock system anymore.
