Hey George, I'm more experienced in FW planted than SW. I usually shop for my plants from a variety of vendors. One of the vendors for low light plants are in 8th ave/65St (Royal Aquarium- I think) and fishtown USA ( bad service, but the plants range about 2.33/bunch).

If your ordering alot, try http://www.aquabotanic.com/aquamenu.htm

There plants are well packaged and algae-free. What kind of plants are you seeking? High-Tech (light&Co2) or low light?

theres a great lfs out here with bunched plants with great prices. It may be a lil far for you but if youre ever in the area you should stop in. Its called tropical showcase and is at 372 W Old Country Rd Hicksville, NY 11801-4113. They have tons of different bunched plants(2.99 each buy 3 get 1 free) as well as potted plants(4.99 each). They have hc, dwarf hairgrass, hm, microsword, wisteria, anubias, and tons more. i have at least 20 species of plants in my tank from there and i dont have 1/4 of what he has. He will also order you almost anything you want. Fish are a little expensive for fw but are high quality and some rareities.

I run a 96W Fixture CF (satellite) over my 50G Discus Tank. It's low tech and the photoperiod is 8 hours a day (8PM - 4AM). Then it also gets natural light from the windows. No Algae and I dose CO2 & Macro/Micro ferts (Nitrogen, Potassium, Phosphorous, and Iron).

It depends what plants you want. This site could help you on lighting, planting, etc.

Good look Wzrd, how did the topsoil work out for you.

I was only able to get a small amount of topsoil :( but I'm moving stuff around so I still havent set the tank up yet :) Doing more research and getting everything together. On plantedtank.net they have a post about nutrient rich topsoil for the planted tank, check it out. I have an old reptile good which I mounted coralife legs onto. The fixture has those energy spiral bulbs in it which are 25 watts each. It can go up to 75 watts each. I'm gonna start on a diy CO2 system. I'm reading up on filters now, dont know If Im gonna use my fluval or get a hob filter. I want something with a spray bar tho.

Hey Wzrd, the only filter I know with spray bars is the canisters. Sounds like your doing the Walstad method. I tried the DIY CO2 but f'ed it up. Right now I am tearing down the tank and going start over again. I have been hitting plantedtank.net and barrreport.com hard. There is also aquascapingworld.com I am checking also. Not much for info but looks promising, they are new.
