Jim, what you see is what you get. Lens is the 18-70mm DX, better known as the kit lens.

i know absolutly nothing bout SLR cams.. so would i need to buy a really expensive lense to take those nice close up pics you take..?

For the most part yes, this lens is an all around lens. For macros you would need to get another lens.
