EVOLUTION IM30L EXT - May Day upgrade alert

So I sold my RED SEA 350 about 9months ago due to life and decided that a smaller tank was an option. Hard to stay away from the hobby.

Less maintenance, keeping it simple with doing a water change to handle the load which I don't think will be too demanding and staying AIO (for now). If water changes then kalkwasser don't keep up with the demand, I will buy a doser down the road.​

Equipment

Setup IM20 Peninsula​

Prestige LED/T5 hybrid. Only running 2 T5 bulbs - ATI Blue Plus in order to supplement the LEDs. 4 would be too much with no plans to go heavy on SPS.​

IM Ghost Skimmer​

InTank caddy with filter floss and going to run only chemipure blue to handle gfo and carbon​

Jebao SOW4​

Have phosguard on hand if I see signs of PO4 creeping up.

Only thing I am dosing right now is Polyplab polyp booster and feeding LRS Reef Frenzy, Hiraki Mysis and reef roids.

Seeing growth on all the corals and looking happy with everything so far. New babies on a few of the zoas already!

I need more fish because I have been feeding slightly heavy with only 2 clowns. They don't take much to feed.

**The midas blenny seemed chill at first. Now he hides and is a dick in a lot of ways. We'll see how he is in a few weeks. Can't believe I made sure I had the barnacle holes left open and specifically wanted for the midas to chill out in. Doesn't even use it.

Went with total of 4 ATI Blue+ bulbs
changes in livestock
Went from IO to RCP - no shock on anything and went smooth. I did W/C with 1/2 RCP/IO then 2/3 and now on full on RCP.

Tank direction for coral list is going towards EUPHYLLIA + Zoa garden with some montis and cyphaetrea.

Next anticipated corals:

CC 21 Tails

Will pick up other color hammers after my torch collection settles.

If I can recover perfect, if not, I am calling it quits. Was doing well, spending retarded money to get to a happy point and now fighting to save it.

Dinos have been beaten back!

3 day black out + Dino X... Has been gone for over a week now and tank back on track.

Now worried about GHA or byropsis on a frag or two. Fcuk me!



However, good news? Pulled the trigger on the sick CC 21 Tails Torch!!

Cant wait to get it in the tank and see it explode.

So it was faster than expected.

Wife said either car or fish tank....went to go look at a car that peaked my interest 2018 Subaru WRX STI with some nice adds.

I schedule the visit and go out with my protective gear......only took me 30+ minutes to get there and showed up early (NAVY HABIT). And of course, I get the spill about it not being there and it just left 2 hours ago but they have other cars available.

Walked out.

Wife admitted it was a sign. She didnt want me to get another tank!

So now I am stuck on a 4 year deal. No upgrades.

I knew I wouldnt be completely satisfied but I knew I didnt want to go bigger than i had to in order to keep maintaining the tank at an acceptable level for my life. 3 kids, football and futbol (club level). I coach, club coach and at times when we on the grind almost 7 days a week, weekdays not home until 10pm. So my time becomes VERY limited and tank will suffer.

Now, sorry bout the life long story.....here comes the good news...

I wanted to go custom stand but wife didnt want me to build it out. Oh well.

Want a fuge system to out compete algae growing in the DT but with stand limitations caused sump limitations. May have to go with a HOB fuge down the road. Dont like the idea but again not many options.

Sorry going to keep notes on here that may be helpful for others in the future.

The APS stand isn't really ideal and will have to modify it in several ways to make me a bit more happy and give me a peace of mind.

a) PVC foam board bottom
issue? if you have been reefing for awhile, you know the sump becomes a weak point and if there is going to be a leak or overflow.....This is where it will happen! The foam board leaves too much room for water to soak anything underneath the stand and problem for those below and FLOORS!
Resolution? I plan to buy shower pan liner and line the bottom area to create a barrier.

b) room for extras
issue? no shelves etc,
resolution? need to create a controller, dosing and ATO stand

c) room for fuge
issue? no room for decent sized sump
resolution? Algae reactor? Algae Scrubber? Biopellets? Not sure what I want to run yet.

I may need another option for lighting. I don't want to drill into stand for current lamp tree.

Thinking of Kessil AP700 for a more sleek look or a Radion G5. need to find beam to decide if I want to hang the lights instead.

So everything is still in route, looking up the upgrade plans of action, minute details like what color piping to match the overall scheme.

Plan to add with upgrade:
cleaner shrimp (skunk)
Pencil urchin
Small yellow tang (yes I KNOW). I have no issues with giving the tang away when it's time to let it go and get a smaller tang again. Should give me a good year ~ before having to let it go each time.

Still haven't decided on my algae control method. May give the biopellets a go since it will cost the least to get running in the meantime. Can't hurt to give it a try and see how my tank reacts. Will start with 1/4 recommended dose and bump it up to half recommended and just watch how it goes for awhile.

For the sump you can do 20 long diy sump kit from fijucube and for the lighting if i were you I'll go with 2 hydra 32 with ai rail kit
