I just tonight set up my daughters 2.5 gallon pico/nano FOWLR tank. Live rock and live sand are in and system is up and running. My question is, when its time to add the snails and crabs, what type and how many would do fine in this size tank? The only fish eventually going in will be 1 clown goby. Thanks for the info.

You can add more critters right after the ammonia/nitrite both are down to zero.

Snails and crabs. Myself I don't suggest many crabs, but I would say get about 4 small snails, say 2 cerith and 2 nerites to start with. Then if there is more algae than they can keep up with add a couple more.

For your sand, I would suggest 3 or 4 nassarius snails.
