I'd like to stick a rhomboid wrasse in there, but I'm looking for other rare fish recommendations for my 28-gallon NanoCube. I'm thinking 3 fish total, so maybe two more after that...

I had a C. flavidorsalis in my 33 cube. The yellowback only gets about half the length of a full grown C. rhomboidalis (over 4") and it still seemed pretty cramped for him.

I think any Liopropoma basslet would be cool. You could do a Wrasse Bass all by itself:

Or a lone Shy Hamlet:

Or you could fill up the tank with a shoal of tiny Japanese Cave Gobies:
