Starting a tank

A buddy of mine is looking to get a small tank (under 30 gal). Hes not looking to start anything crazy (no corals,inverts, probably just a couple damsels,etc) what kind of costs do you think hes lookin at for a fish only setup? and what kind of setup would u guys reccomend to keep costs at a minimum?

Well, you have asked a pretty broad question there. It's hard to estimate costs because we have no idea what your buddy is prone to buy, or to what lengths he will go to construct his on contraptions.

I tend to think that BudgetTank Aquarists should just skip this hobby.
