Hi. I'm just starting out, and looking at making a 36" x 12" x 20" tank for some percs, other fish, and hopefuly one day invertebrates.

Now that I'm starting to make a few purchases, I realise how little I can afford.

I got a 150W metal halide combo light for cheap. And I saw a Deltec MC500 for a really good price second hand. If I hang that on the back of my tank is the skimmer and light going to be fine for a few months?

How many gallons? What type of fish do you want to keep? Don't add fish until you cycle your tank....please.

Your choice of a Deltec is an excellant one. The hallide is not needed unless you are stocking with corals like SPS or clams.

To answer your question, yes.

You can keep inverts, I would wait a little while for anemones but shrimp, crabs and snails are ok.
