I have a 3 month old 12 Gallon nano Tank doing well,I have one Damsel and one Black cap Basslett and a pygmy Angel fish in there with two soft corals and all are doing well I take water samples every week and do a 50 percent water change every two weeks and all is well. Its packed with live rock and a cleaner shrimp and crabs.Thinking of adding a star fish maybe a chocolate chip starfish what do you think should I.

nice to hear about your tank's success, glad to have you to join in on our board! I recommend you buy a nitrate test kit if you don't already have one, that way you can choose an upper acceptable limit and not exceed that limit in between water changes with the new animals you are considering. Of course there reef safe and non reef safe stars and other animals, I'm assuming you've either previously kept the specimens you have your eye on or have read about them extensively prior to purchase, to predict their feeding needs and reef impact characters.

Even so, a nitrate range is the best way to guage your bioload's impact on your stable reef system. Either change water more often to maintain your setpoint, or add less feed/animals. Kind of like a biological teeter-toter!
