First I'll give you a little background bout me. I have been reffing for 12 years off and on. This will be my 3rd reef tank(100, 85, and 10 gal.). Little success with the 85 and the 100 lasted almost 3 years before meetings its demise during a long distance move. I decided to take some time off and try to learn some more before attempting again. Well it has been four years now and I have the bug again.
I still have the 100 gallon setup but no water in it at this time. On that system I had 2 aqua-clear 300s for filtration. I also had a CPR Bakpak 2 for skimming. I had 2 Taam Rio 600s, and 2 Taam Rio 400s hooked to a Blue line Tsunami wave maker for circulation. My lighting was 4 VHO and one 400watt MH. The lighting was set for 14 hour day with MH on for middle 5 hours. I still have all of this equipment and after I get my 10g set up and established I will be setting Up the 100 again.
Which brings me to the subject of this post, the 10g. I want to set up tank and build a custom stand and have alot of questions about small nano style systems. Currently I have two empty 10g tanks and was at first thinking of a sump or refugium. But I have been reading and want to know if I could just use the CPR from my 100 and use no other filtration. Or would it could it be done with a canister type filter. The area over the lights is open to the front as I have always liked the area above tanks to be open for viewing My basic plan is a bare bottom rock tank for Montipora, Zoanthus, Acropora, Xenia, and star polyps. I'm really looking for some input on what can make this tank successful. Looking for input on filtration methods wet-dry, refugium, skimming, canister and so on. Circulation powerheads and how much water do I need to be looking to puish in a 10g tank. And lighitng MH or Flour or combo of both. I am including a rough sketch of how I would like to build this system it is kind of modeled after Fooshino's system from the Nano Reef Buildoff and would appreciate any input.
Thanks in advance, Patrick.
