I installed the JBJ surface skimmer mod about 10 days ago. The water level never did drop enough in the skimmer to have much of an effect on the suface. I modded the skimmer by removing about 1/4" form the top "teeth" section. This alowed me to raise the skimmer higher and allow for more surface skimming.

The pump was changed weeks ago with a higher g.p.h. pump.

When I cut the suface skimmer I added a bag of purigen and chemipure to the back compartments. They work awsome by the way, I can't believe how it cleaned the water, it almost looks polished, and the pc lights are actually shimmering on the bottom, and IMO they are relatively cheap.

The water line in the skimmer is now only about 1/2". I was wondering if the chemipure or purigen lowered the water density and enabled the pump to run more efficiently, and I was also wondering if anyone has had a similiar experiance.

Thanks

I use a Purigen pad as well, in my HOB filter. I use a Fluval surface skimmer attached to it. Love the fact that you can just drop it in bleach when it turns brown and voila, new pad, ready to use again!

Hi,

I'm a little over a year starting out with salt water tanks and my own JBJ 12gal. nano cube. I was interested in trying purigen and chemipure bags you noted above. The results seem worth while. I don't really have any proplems but improving water quality is always essential with nanos. where can i get those products? LFS? any other advice will help too. thanks!
