I was wandering around in my local Petco the other day and saw a bunch of these on an endcap:

Hydor Mini Aquarium Heater

They are pretty small and don't have any sort of adjustment (automatically heat the water a couple degrees warmer than ambient room temperature), but thought I would pass it along in case they will work out with anyone's extremely small system.

Thanks for the tip Skys, appreciate any new materials we can get a hold of. Actuated thermometers are becoming more and more popular now, although I dont recall where (but may remember some day) I saw a setup that was a little pod device like a computer mouse with a wired probe and output controls to affect a device like the one you've posted. Then one gets back to the easier issue of cooling the immediate surroundings and letting this auto on-off system run the pico...it was hard to both heat and cool the immediate surroundings for the purpose of reef stability. Thanks

That's the same heater I have in the skimmer of my build off tank and also in my 2.5 pico. I haven't had any problems with it and it seems to do what I want it to.

I just picked one of these up for my contest pico on NR.com...
My tank is in a non-heated room, and the temps at night can get into the low 60's do you think it will be able to keep the tank warm enough?

what exactly is it supposed to do? There's no details on what temp it's set to, or how many watts it is going to put into the tank

It is supposed to raise the tank temp * a few degrees above ambient temp*

It also says the unit can reach a max of 176 degrees F if ran dry...

the last pictured post is the one I have. It seems longer than the first pic. It is doing a good job keeping my 2.5G at 78*....
