Sheesh, what a disaster. Both mangroves died. I don't know if the salinity was not correct or if I gave them too much light, but they both had their leaves curl up and turn brown over about a month's time. I kept the salinity @ 1.025, temp at 78 F.....I don't know what I did wrong exactly. I sprayed their leaves off every day with RO water too as recommended. Also, amphipods and worms and Chaetomorpha are alive in the same tank. Rules out any "unknown toxin" issue. :? :? :?

I've found that Mangroves need to acclimated to salinity very slowly once they sprout their first leaf.

That stinks, Matt. I was planning a setup like this about a year or so ago. If it helps, here are a few of the threads and whatnot where I discussed the aspects of it with Anthony Calfo and Eric Borneman:

http://www.wetwebmedia.com/mangrovefaqs.htm (scroll about halfway down until you get to the ones titled "Mangrove system." There are three...start from the bottom).

Maybe there's something there that will help you.

I've read that they are particularly sensitive to salinity. Since I had no idea what salinity they came from, I just stuck them in full strength SW. Oh well.

On a positive note, my week old 50 gallon already has coralline growing on the glass! :D
