Sheesh, what a disaster. Both mangroves died. I don't know if the salinity was not correct or if I gave them too much light, but they both had their leaves curl up and turn brown over about a month's time. I kept the salinity @ 1.025, temp at 78 F.....I don't know what I did wrong exactly. I sprayed their leaves off every day with RO water too as recommended. Also, amphipods and worms and Chaetomorpha are alive in the same tank. Rules out any "unknown toxin" issue. :? :? :?
That stinks, Matt. I was planning a setup like this about a year or so ago. If it helps, here are a few of the threads and whatnot where I discussed the aspects of it with Anthony Calfo and Eric Borneman:
I was thinking of getting some mangroves, now ill have to do more research..Thanks Matt..Your unfortunate failure is a benefit (if you look at it like that)
I've read that they are particularly sensitive to salinity. Since I had no idea what salinity they came from, I just stuck them in full strength SW. Oh well.
On a positive note, my week old 50 gallon already has coralline growing on the glass!
