After seeing small 20's with 5 fish all around 2" - 5" (inc dwarf angels), seemed a tad on the high bioload side to me, but its made me want to put more in my 29 gal.

Currently I have just a Tomato Clown in there, but I'm considering adding a yellow clown goby, purple pseudochromis, 2 yellow tailed damsels and possibly a flame angel. This tank also has corals and various other inverts, cucumbers etc.

Basically my question is whether it would be alright to add that many?, whether their all compatible in such a small place? And if not, which one/s I should consider dropping?

I also have a 10gal with a Pink Spotted Shrimp Goby, it has a coral banded in there with it, but I want to add a pistol, would they fight?

Thanks in advance.

Just my $.02 but I'd probably leave the damsels and maybe the angel off.

No idea on the banded/pistol compatibility, but does sound risky.

I was thinking the damsels would probably be a bit too much myself. Was just really considering them so I could get a bit of blue in there.

For the 29 I'd go with either
1) The pseudo and the clown goby
2) The two damsels (I assume they're Chrysiptera parasema, yeah?)
OR
3) Just the flame

Pick one of the three :D

It's going to be tough adding anything into that tank with an established tomato clown though.

I would not expect the two shrimp to get along either.

I learned the hard way with the shrimp, I added a pistol shrimp awile back to a 40g with a coral banded and a few days later I noticed the pistol shrimp was "unarmed". Both his claws were gone!
My assuption was the coral banded was the culprit.

Just a thought, you could probably keep the yellow clown goby in the 10 gallon with the "Pink spotted(? Do you know what species this is?) goby"

Cryptocentrus leptocephals is the Pink Spotted Watchman Goby

I don't really want to put anything else other than the Pistol in the 10gal. I was just trying to see what else I could squeeze into my 29.

Yeah, the damsel's would be Chrysiptera parasema.

I'll probably go for no.1 then, Pseudo and clown goby are more appealing to me than just two yellow-tails.

I'd like the flame too, but think the 2 smaller fish would be a better choice.

Oh, another question while I'm at it.

I keep reading on various sites about the purple pseudo, that they may eat small ornamental shrimp?

I have 5 peppermints, I dont want them to go missing.

Yeah, it's possible. If you have full grown pepps, and add the dotty afterwards you'd probably be OK though. Get a pair of P. fridmani! Very cool.

I've done a little more research and found out that the purple pseudo's seem to pick on the yellow clown gobies a little. So added to the fact they eat ornamental shrimp I've decided against getting one.

I went ahead and got a nice little yellow clown goby however. Cute little guy.

Now I have to decide on the last fish inhabitant/s of the reef.

I'm betting the tomato clown will go after the yellow clown goby.

IME, tomato clowns are evil.

Peace,

Chip

Usually I'd agree with you, but funnily enough the clown just nudged the yellow clown goby a couple of times and thats it. He now swims around as if protecting the goby, while the goby just chills out on top of a rock he's made his own.

This tomato I have is a bit of a wuss though, he was being beaten up by the coral banded shrimp before I moved it out to the 10gal.

Fozza,

That's funny you should say that,,, my Skunk clowns are usually very protective around their carpet anemone but when the clown gobies came near they just lightly nudged them out of the way,,, literally pushed them with their 'nose',,, was funny to watch,, the gobies didn't swim away,, they just let themselves be pushed away from the anemone,, sometimes halfway across the tank.

Unfortunately the mated pair of clown gobies were both killed by a new Royal Gramma who took a liking to the acro where the gobies laid their eggs,, it ripped them to shreds, I never realized a Gramma could open it's mouth that wide.
