I've used both when I started a long time ago. They are rather dim for their wattage and I preferred URI's bulbs much more. Nothing horrible happened, but URI (or Vitalite if it's still available nowadays) are better choices IME.
same here. I have actually used them over planted systems with some success, so at least they will drive photosynthesis. Current prices on reef lighting and lighting diversity opens up much better choices than standard flourescents in my opinion. Try a search on our nano forum for a member named Sahin, I believe his system was the best standard-flourescent setup I've seen to date.
