JonnyJ's Elos system 20 [Mini] Naturalistic approach - all hitchikers.

Just wanted to share my Elos system mini, I went for a naturalistic approach. I run the tank on the whiter spectrum [ai sol nano -30 white 15 blue, 15 royal blue]. Tank is skimmerless, and will receive a 5 gallon water change once a month, fed 3x per day. The tank will rely solely on the macro algae and filter feeders. Their is a mix of nps and photosynthetic gorgonias.

I will be swapping out some of the livestock for pipe fish in the upcoming month.

If you are wondering whats in the tank, your guess is as good as mine is, its packed with wanted's and unwanted hitchhikers. this liverock was collected and shipped in water. Many new things pop up daily. Including gorilla crabs, Large flatworms, mantis/pistol shrimp.

Holy Sh@# that tank is awesome,why are you using no skimmer?is because of the filter feeders.I have a 11 gal nano I gotta set up I wish it could look half as nice.

Yes, I'm not using a skimmer. I have ran tanks for years without them in the past. Its just another form of exporting nutrients. I personally want this tank to have high nutrients. I will watch my levels for a few months and adjust when necessary. The introduction of all these macros will help run a stable system. My sump is large and running as a fuge as well.

@kingator - I am avoiding both skimmer and media, i feed 3x per day but in small amounts. I have a large clean up crew, including 2 large stars,& 3 shrimp in the tank. And they are forever cleaning up the tank. I want the tank run "dirty" - any of the things that most people hate - i actually want for this setup.

Figuring out what this tank can handle will be fun and a challenge at the same time. Waterchanges may need to be increased in the future or maybe some form of carbon dosing. Well have to see how it does.

How did you organize your sump? I love the Elos Minis but the sumps sure are tiny.
